    Any recommendations?

For straight gaming Intel is going to have a leg up on Ryzen every time with comparable chips. It’s not much but Intels single core performance is just better at the moment.

If your using a lot of multi thread programs or streaming and playing it tightens up.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Not really a "Build my own PC" question, but I figured there was no need to start another thread for this. My girlfriend is in the market for a new laptop for work. She currently uses an 7 or 8 year old mac with the HDD partitioned to use Windows. She never even uses the Apple portion so she just wants to get a new laptop.

The main things she'd be doing on the laptop would be working in Quickbooks, Excel, and using web applications/browsing. The main thing is to get something that would offer good performance in these areas.

Any suggestions? Price range I'd say is $400 - $800.

        Some options:

If you’re on a budget, these are the best cheap Windows laptops and Chromebooks we recommend after extensive research and hands-on testing.

You can pretty much get any laptop and be fine. I suggest getting one with an i5 processor and 8 gb of ram so it doesn’t feel slow.

Brands I usually stick to are asus, acer and dell.

I'd also throw Lenovo in that arena, me and the wife have always had a great experience with them.

The Lenovo Thinkpad, Yoga, and Carbon are all great pads, but they can get a little higher on the budget. The Lenovo Yoga 720 falls in your budget, sports up to an i7 Proc and is a 2 in 1 pad for ease of use. For simple browsing and business, it should do everything needed.

I forgot to mention Lenovo, i have a couple laptops of theirs for my employees and they work just as well. Maybe its my luck but i've had terrible experiences with HP.

I gotta say though the best laptop I ever owned is my 2013 macbook, I NEVER had an issue with it. Had to replace the battery but that was it.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. We wound up getting a Dell Inspiron 15 5570 with a 256 GB SSD, 8th Gen i5 quad core processor, and 8 GB RAM for $599. So far it's working well for her.

Time for more help! Appreciate it as always.

So far my upgraded CPU etc has been awesome and now it's time for a monitor. Grabbing a 1070ti very soon also and just hoping for some feedback.

                  i5-8400
                  16 gb DDR4
                  1070ti

I'm torn between 1440p 144hz or 1080p 144hz. Part of me wants to future-proof, the other wonders if I'll come anywhere close to utilizing the 1440p and spending the extra $100 or so on it will be worth it.

I've narrowed it down to these:

                  1440p 144hz

                  1080p 144hz

I pulled the trigger this morning on this badboy. I was tempted to grab the 1080 at $509 but settled on the 1070 Ti at $469 because with the ease of overclocking it (1900's mhz) and making it basically a 1080, I chose the "newer" card. Plus I'm a 1080p gamer so the 1070 ti should be plenty for a while.

Nice man. What made your choose that over the MSI, if I may ask?

This one intrigued me because it’s a little smaller than the MSI variant , I’d have to remove a HDD cage from my case most likely to get the MSI to fit.

Have always heard good things about EVGA too. Specifically their customer service.

Well. I switched to the i5 8600k after much debate. Do not regret it one bit.

For the same price as I had the 2600, my gaming performance has greatly improved.

I must’ve had a bad chip or something, the 2600 would not stay stable on a higher OC. My 8600k has ran like a charm.

I also dumped my 8GB memory and bought 16GB 3000mhz Corsair RGB memory.

                          Final build:

                          GTX 1080 8GB
                          Intel i5-8600k
                          Crosair Vengance RGB 16GB 3000Mhz
                          TUF Gaming Pro Motherboard

Been playing BF1, FIFA, NBA 2K, and GTA V.. absolutely been a different experience than when I was using my Radeon 7850 lol.

Just really need to upgrade my 1080p monitor to 1440p.

Yeah so many choices lol. I’m not going to get one until early next year so maybe they’ll drop in price.

I would check that dell out if you looking. Unless others have more information about it, I’ve read really good things.

I have the Asus one you posted and my goodness, you will not be disappointed. Especially if you have a 1080 or 1080ti which I have. I've never seen games look better. Only con is there is a little light bleed on the corners but its not that bad compared to my ultrawide. To be honest light bleed never bothered me as I can only see it during a black screen.

I think the Acer is pretty much the same so I'm not sure if it warrants a 100 dollar difference. One thing I like about Asus is the joystick controls and I've always found the build quality is a bit better than Acer. Though I don't use the stand anymore, the stand is super solid and glides up and down very easy.
