I’ll wait for benchmarks but plan on keeping my 8700K. Would like to get a 3090 but we will see on availability. It will probably be very hard to get.

I suppose I could go 9900K as well, just don’t feel like doing a full MOBO upgrade.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

I need some help guys. I tried to install a real RGB fan and basically realized it wasn’t gonna work because I didn’t have the connection. So my three front fans somehow stopped working because I’m sure I put something back the wrong way. I got the fans working by combing these in the pic but the RGB isn’t working.

I have no idea what to do now and I’m afraid to even try anything now that I at least got the fans running. I’m thinking that’s not how they are supposed to be connected.

I would really appreciate any help. IMG_1223.jpgIMG_1224.jpg

And now my graphics card is losing power off and on. I really really screwed up. All for a fan that didn’t even work.

First off, how many watts is your power supply and what kind of GPU and CPU do you have ? I honestly would unplug everything and start over, labeling the cords of what it goes to if you have to. Could be you knocked loose or unplugged a motherboard additional power connector by accident. When something fails, unplug everything and start over & document step by step.

A guy was supposed to fix it for me today and now can't do it for at least a few days.

500W power supply, Ryzen 2600X, AMD 5600 xt,

I'm not sure I'm comfortable digging that deep in. I can worry about the fans colors later, I just don't get how this affected my graphics card. Unless it has something to do with that chain of plugs being wrong. I think the white was was on top before, but if I keep it there the fans don't work.

So I tightened just the plugs in the back that are pictured. But pretty sure one of the prongs inside is broken. It's definitely out of place and moved. So I assume this is what caused my initial issue and somehow the graphics card is connected to that.

The fans are on and the card is running ok for now.

Now quick question, can I keep it like this for a couple days knowing the GPU may flicker on and off here and there? That won't damage anything right?

I would use it as little as possible. Power flickers can potentially damage your card. Grant it nowadays PC parts have built in stuff to prevent it, but it can still happen. You talking around maybe 3% chance. Your GPU shouldn't be connected with your fan header though, so I don't even know why the fans causing issues with it. That it is just odd.

Can't really tell from those pictures, but there should be fan headers to plug your fans into your MOBO. Depending on your mobo there may be a separate RGB/ARGB fan header.

500W - could be running up against the limit of your PSU. Otherwise I'm guessing something was unseated when you were installing/rewiring the fans.

Thanks. I think the issue might be this one plug that has a broken prong in it. I think it's just barely able enough to get power, but I think it might be not fully powering the chain of wires.

Supposedly the guy who built it for me is gonna look at it in a day or two. I've had it on and it's been running fine, just no RGB in the front fans. Somehow that lost power. But the fans are running and the GPU has stayed on fine.

As far as the PSU, that could be right. Everything worked fine before, but maybe I overloaded it or something. I might ask if he can give me a discount on a used 750W or something.

It's just so frustrating knowing I'm the one who messed it all up and it wasn't just something that happened. I should have known better because my knowledge on building PC's and how to work with them is limited.

If anything is loose (or broken), you will have power issues. I had a cable that had all prongs in their slot but one due to the cable being slightly lifted on one side and it provided just enough power to get my SSD working but no HDDs.

Unplugged everything and went through so much troubleshooting to realize the cable was loose.

I bet your problem is similar since you said the prong is broken.

Hoping amazon doesn't cancel preorders even with Nvidia not allowing preorders. Was able to preorder the exact card I want and from the store I wanted. I have a ton of amazon gift cards and they had the MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio up for a few minutes for preorder.

Is a 750w gold psu enough? I have a superflower leadex iii gold.

I think I watched a video that 750w is the minimum but that could be for the 3090.

I'm wondering how hard will it be to get a 3080 tomorrow.. And, will best buy have them in stores.
