I'm almost certainly going with a NZXT H440 for my case.

Can I get someone's opinion on this please? I've got a 1080p display and this looks like a pretty good price for what you get.

If you were to buy it piece by piece and do it yourself you are not coming out ahead much so I'd say the price is good.

I run pretty close to this setup and I love it.

        i5 4690k
        8 gig ram
        R9 290 (on par with 970)
        Z97 Fatality motherboard
        Sound Blast Zx
        1 Tb HD
        500 Gb HD
        750w Power supply.

Other than the case being hideous, its a good price considering all you get.

Edit: I'm unsure how good the keyboard, mouse, and onboard sound are. I would plan into most likely having to replace those, especially the on board sound if you require high end sound like I do.

Sound Blaster Z http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102048 with my AKG 612 Pros http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-.../dp/B00DCXZY1W equal for one amazing experience in games but even better when listening to music.

Thanks Phobia. Do you hate the case because of the way it looks?

I have the same case all black same company. Paid similar almost 3 years ago but this one might be a bit stronger than min me was. I like it.

Couldn't see the psu spec.. but other than that you'll probably want to move up to a gtx 980 but you'll be more than fine starting off. Easy

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Feeling a little snakebitten with my build.

                - Bought wrong motherboard that didn't have a M.2 slot for my SSD. My bad for getting unnecessarily fancy with my drive. Now have an MSI Gaming 7. I had the Z97 G45 which has a mSATA rather than a M.2.

                - Frys substituted an different fan with my Cooler Master 212 because they were OOS.. 'exact same thing, same price' they said. Didn't notice until a motherboard swap later that it's compatible with 1155 and other chipsets. Not 1150. Thanks Frys. Using stock cooler for now, and with no immediate plans to overclock I'm just going with the stock cooler for a bit.

                - When installing the USB3.0 connector for the case's external ports I bent a pin. To fix it I have to pull the motherboard completely out because all the fancy cable management is in the way. Just leaving it be for now because there's like 8 USB3.0 on the back I can use. Annoyed though and will fix it eventually.

                - Made a bootable USB of Windows 10. Key won't work. Argh.

                - When I initially booted the system up I couldn't get video from my GTX 980. Not using it for now and it's back in the box while I just use the onboard video to get drives partitioned and Windows installed. A problem for another day.

Just snagged a Windows 8.1 key from Reddit for $20, that's where I'm at w/ my build. Downloading a USB installer directly from MS for it and we'll see where I can get today.

I have the Gaming 7 as well. <strike>It does have an m.2 slot.</strike>

                  Edit: NVM, I misread.

Even at checkout after explaining why I did the swap I went and double/triple checked that it had the m.2, lol.

Thanks to a price match with Amazon I didn't pay anything extra for the nicer board either, which was cool.

Windows 8 installed, though it doesn't see my SATA dive. Might have plugged it into a port that's nuked by using the m.2 ssd. Interesting that the bios sees it. Can't even hear it spin up, wonder if it's DOA or the power came loose putting the back panel on.

Yeah, the Gaming 7 is a very nice board. Really happy with it outside of one issue I'm having with the audio, and even then I don't know for sure if the problem lies with the board itself.

I don't have an m.2 drive but I've seen conflicting reports regarding the loss of the 5 and 6 SATA ports when it's used. Some have said that the ports still work for them even when using m.2. How long do you plan to use the stock cooler? The 212 is always in stock online and seemingly always comes with a rebate.

Thought I posted this already but I must of been seeing things:

Ok I am having problems with my PC Internet. In the new apartment its just been extremely unstable but at the old house it was fine. Only thing I can figure its the walls or Paint causing interference with the WiFi signal some how. At the old house the Modem was farther away and had to go through a floor to get to my room and it wasnt as bad as in the new place. Funny thing is its literally 1 floor and about 30ish yards away from me....-_-.

The option I may try is a Power line adapter. Only problem is where our Modem is theres a 2 plug Power Surge adapter plugged into them and Powerlines only work well when plugged into the actual wall outlet. Im going to need to use a power strip for that and use the other plug for the adapter. In my room I have a power strip but problem being is I dont think I got enough plugs at the out let to get everything into one power strip and free up a wall outlet and I am not sure if you can plug a power strip into another power strip.

Are there a lot of wifi signals in this location? Might need to switch to a new channel. Powerline adapters can be fickle, we have 3 rooms connected thanks to powerline adapters, but best of luck there.

Unrelated, lol, my first world problems continue... of the 4 LCDs in our house none are HDMI, and my new build only has 1 DVI. Guess I'll be picking up an adapter at Frys tomorrow.

                              Probably TMI here: http://www.extremetech.com/computing...-right-channel

Basically go into your wireless router, and typically on the same screen you name you SSID and define your wireless settings you'll have a channel selection.

This might not fix your problem, but it's the easiest thing to tinker with probably. Good luck.

Example from my router (dual band so I have 2 sets of settings):

To piggy back off what mestevo mentioned, it would also be wise to run a channel scanner. It will show the most congested channels in your area. You will get lots of drops with heavy used channels due to interference. I've used inSSIDer http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html in the past and have had good luck with it. I'm sure there is newer programs out but that's one I know from experience works.
