I was able to OC the 8350 a little higher but that amounted to minimal performance improvements. For gaming, more likely than not it's the GPU that's going get you the bigger gains. It wasn't until I upgraded from a 6950 1GB to a 7950 3GB that I finally saw the big big jump in performance I was looking for. I imagine you saw the same with your new 280X.

I passed the AMD setup along with the 6950(When I upgrade to the 300 series, the 7950 will be passed down as well) down to my boys who were at the time using an old pre-made machine that wasn't really suitable for gaming anymore and switched to an Intel based system for myself. I'm now using an i5 4690k, OC'd @4.4GHz and while there's a clearly noticeable difference in some, maybe even most (especially if they are CPU-bound like MMOs)games, I can admit that it wouldn't have been worth the $300+(MOBO+CPU) I spent to get it if I only had one desktop in the house. Note, this is all specific to gaming, I'm not talking about productivity, rendering etc.

As for Arma 3 I could have sworn you pulled the trigger on that a long time ago, but I'm probably thinking of Arma 2. I thought you, Phobia and some others were already playing it together.
Yep i got Arma 2... was going to get arma 3 but my 7950 wasn't working so I decided to wait til I got a better working card which I do now.

I guess I can save my money for this processor. I don't have Amra 3 yet but that game is going to tell me how well my processor holds up.

AMD's "Zen" core is coming soon, supposedly in '16 so I agree with you in saving that money, at least until then. It will offer better performance in single-threaded applications(that's why Intel shines in most games). There's also DX12, which is coming this summer along with Windows 10. It's going to offer much better performance in CPU-bound applications than it's predecessors and may give new life to AMD's CPUs as early benchmarks show that it scales greatly per core.

Right, the Zen core will be on an entirely new socket plus will include support for DDR4 memory.

I can't get Intel Processors on my board its AMD only.
Yep, that's why I said it wouldn't be worth the hundreds of dollars to switch to Intel, because you'd have to get a new motherboard as well. So if you're going to make an upgrade that requires a new board anyway, you might as well wait and see what Zen will offer first. After DX12 games are out and some developers choose to implement DX12 support in already released games you might even see that the need to upgrade isn't even necessary until the "next-gen" is released.

Yo T-Rob I'm going to holla at you about your OC settings on the devils canyon. I've yet to ramp mine up from factory, been waiting to pull the trigger on the Corsair 400R plus a water cooling setup. Stock fan I don't believe I'd be able to get much as of now.

Thanks for quoting that, I meant 4670K but I don't imagine it's too different. I'm on air using the 212 EVO, voltage set to 1.259 and stable. I could probably go up to 4.5 while still keeping the core voltage below 1.3 but I was satisfied once I reached stability with the current settings. And yeah wouldn't recommend trying to go too high with the stock cooler.

No Idea why i never got this news.

2016 would be a good time to switch if i ever do. Played Black Ops and 2k15 both on high after we talked last night and no hitches.

I think I'm going to trade in my ps4 gta for the pc version ans get batman on pc and who knows what else but that should keep me busy for a minute on pc.

I really hate that there's no microcenter near Vegas. Probably leaning towards putting together a high-end i7/980 build in the next week or two.

Do it......it is marvelous. I felt the same way that there is no Microcenter anywhere near me. But hey Amazon isn't bad and they do have some sales on PC parts a lot that they don't always advertise.

Almost every part I bought was on sale, the only part that wasn't was the 750Watt power supply.

Speaking of that....what wattage power supplys do you guys have? I have a 650W unit.

I assume thats enough but is it when it comes to pushing your cards and processoes even at stock levels...

its not in your head, most people overspend on PSUs its just the nature of the cost of the product, I have an 850w and dont need anywhere near that much wattage.

I think I bought it for 120 bucks... and a few months after I did it was on sale for 20 bucks off of that price.
