Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

I've got a couple of nice monitors. Have a 2405fpw that I've had for several years, and a 27" 1440p Qnix.

Just recently fell in love with the idea of ultra widescreens, and it just feels like a slippery slope if I want to compromise. Don't want to get a 1080p widescreen, and can't seem to find any to look at in person to quell any 'omg, huge pixels' fears. My fear going 1440p ultrawide is my 980ti will quickly not be enough and I'll be unhappy with performance.

    First world problems all around.

Only spent 20 minutes with it and think I'll probably keep it. Still have my 1440p Qnix hooked up next to it. They make a nice pair but serves as a reminder of how nice my next panel could be

            Hey guys,

Any critique of this as a 3k is build? Gameplan is to stick with 1440p 144hz ips gsync until 4k 144hz becomes viable. Parts picked so that I won't have to upgrade anything other than monitor and graphics cards for a long long while. Fans chosen for SLI potential as I might get a second 980TI in 6 months to a year and just wait until Volta to upgrade my graphics card instead of going with Pascal. I chose the 5820K with the 16 gigs of ram as I'll be doing some photoshop/rendering/programming work. Planning on skipping Skylake for the extra two cores. Anyway if there are any thoughts/criticisms let me know. Fan config will be the 120mm on the front with the stock 140 as intakes, stock 140 rear exhaust, 140mm top exhaust, 140mm bottom and side intakes.

Similar to my build I did 4 or 5 months ago. You don't need a 1000W power supply though, 750watts would do just fine. No way in the world I would pay $800 for a monitor that isn't G Sync. You could find 144mhz the same size for half the price.

750 watts would work for SLId 980tis? Oh the monitor is GSYNC

I think I saw the guy from Tech of Tomorrow run 980ti sli with 750watts before. I want to say it is possible, because my system only uses around 500 watts with 1 980.

What's the best sub $300 graphics card from Nvidia these days? My 660 is overheating like crazy and I clean my rig out every month so I'm guessing its about to go out on me at any moment. Just sitting at the Rocket League menu my temps shoot up to around 90.

                      It's not sub-300 but I think the 4GB 970 is like... $330...

I am wanting to build a computer that will run AutoCAD and Solidworks without any problems and also be good for gaming (mainly Iracing and Battlefield). I would like to run 3 monitors. I'd prefer not to break the bank if possible, what parts would you guys suggest for $1,000 - $1,500?

Do you need monitors included in that budget?

No, I'm thinking $1,500 max for the pc. Hoping to be closer to $1,000. What are you thinking, sir?

Can anyone recommend a good router ? Connecting my PS4, XB1, 2 desktop computers, 4 android devices, printer, and a blu ray player to it. At anytime I may be doing online gaming while someone is watching Netflix while someone is on the computer. Looking for something that can handle that traffic but I don't wanna just buy an expensive router because its expensive. Willing to spend $150-$200 but again I don't wanna do it just to do it. If a $50 router gets the job done I'll take that. I live in a 2 floor house.

It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.
