I'll just say this, and I've been a big AMD supporter for budget builds for a while now.. make sure you don't skimp and go for a high speed i7 processor. You can't skimp on that if you're looking to do editing. You need to go intel all the way.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
It's been forever and a day since I built a PC. The Alienware PC that was gifted to me six years ago can still handle most games I throw at it (I did a memory upgrade to 8GB and put in a new gfx card when a power surge destroyed my old card).
A buddy and I are in the process of launching a YouTube channel (time to put some skills I learned in college to use). Quickly realized though my rig isn't beefy enough for video editing. It can do it...just not quick enough for my liking.
So I need some help putting an editing rig together. Budget is around $2k and I don't need a monitor.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
From what research I have done...the only real difference between a high-end gaming rig and a rig used just for editing is the editing rig will skimp on the gfx card. Seeing as how this will also be used for gaming, it's a good place to start.
May opt for a bigger solid state hard drive.
Thanks for the help.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I don't know if there are any big differences for a video editing compared to a gaming machine so I probably can't help a ton here but I'll give it a shot. Hopefully someone else here can help you with that. You can also take away the Optical Drive and get a cheaper Windows license elsewhere to save money if you want. If you want 32 GB ram now or in the future I would change the 4x4 to 2x8 ram as well.My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
pick up a Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch Curved ultra wide monitor running in 3440x1440 resolution.
Loving it so far. I had been using 2 24-inch Asus monitors.
just playing around with different settings and configurations to see what will work best. working without the bezel in the middle feels great, also gaming at 3440x1440 looks great so far for the games that support it.
currently using one of the older monitors in portrait mode on the side for extra web browsing. not necessarily needed but just trying it out. now really just need a new desk to better fit everything.Comment

Away from the house at the moment, but here is what i can remember
i7-4770k (slight overclock, dont remember off hand what it is, just an auto one the motherboard setup)
Cpu cooler is a corsair h110i
Asus maximus hero VII motherboard
Nvidia gtx 980
32gb ram (overkill for most actions, but i occasionally use hyper-v for virtual machines for work testing, so extra memory works nicely then)
250gb ssd system/boot drive
5tb data drive
Windows 10 pro

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
That cooler is fine. I have a 5820K and that cooler. 5820K can't overclock that well anyway, you will be lucky to get it stable at 4.3GHZ.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
3.3GHZ to 4.3 is still a pretty substantial gain. I have mine sitting at 4.0 ghz conservative on air. I'd be able to push to 4.3-4.4 if I liquid cooled. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment
