Do you mind having a mid to full tower sitting next to your TV or would you want something more compact? One of the members here (forgetting name, formerly a Candyman) did a lot of builds with smaller cases.

For wireless controllers do you want to use the Dual Shock 4? If so you would need to make sure your PC supports bluetooth which I believe is a motherboard thing. Also, the DS4 is a DINPUT controller. While some games might have native support most are going to be XINPUT which is the 360 and X1 controllers though there also seems to be times where X1 controller support is off because it isn't quite the same drivers as 360. In these situations you'll need something like DS4Windows, or Joy2Key to get the controller to work.

For wireless with a 360 controller I used this:

There is also an official adapter for the Xbox One controller:

I didn't know where else to put this but I have my PC that I built almost two years ago and have decent internet. Speed tests put it around 40mb/s but whenever I download games, the download time is extremely slow. It took me over an hour to download 20% of SWTOR and now it's on pace to take me over an hour to download a 825mb OOTP17 file. Is this something I should talk with my ISP about? Or are those speed tests usually off for actual download speed?

I've no problem with having a small, mid or full tower as long as it won't limit any options to build a good PC.

About controls I don't have a preference between a Dualshock or a Xbox controller but if an Xbox controller gives me less trouble then I'd prefer that one. I've my PS Gold headset so I'd need a motherboard that supports bluetooth anyway right?

Thanks for your response since I'm new in this.

I'm at 634/825mb on the download well over an hour later. Something isn't right.

Not really looking for a gaming rig, but just in general trying to understand if this is just a dinosaur or if adding some memory might be good enough. It can play some games pretty well (I played the Tomb Raider reboot on it just fine) but I know it's like 5ish years old or so.

I'm not in the position to spend tons of money, but I'll see cheaper (200-400) laptops or desktops on sites like Woot or Dell clearance and wonder if it just makes sense to get something like that (eventually) and keep this as a media type server or something.

I'm not as current on my processors and whatnot, so appreciate the input! I didn't go super cheap on this originally, and it's still a decent computer...just wonder if I can build off it (or if it's worth it) or if I should think if I just want a laptop or something in the future instead.
Yeah you're good on everything... But adding a better video card will make that thing move..... I think invida is giving away the division as their promotion

Reboot your modem or router... Run a speedtest... If that all checks out it could be the server.... Or..I dont know how much you download but some of these companies are sneaky and choke peoples download speed if they go over a certain amount of data... Even though they say it's unlimited

What's your budget? Depending on it you should wait a couple months for Pascal (next line of gpu's) to release as everything should go down a bit price wise once they are out.

it sounds like it should be downloading faster, my internet speed is usually slower and but it doesn't take that long to download something around 1GB.
could be the source, servers could be congested.

also, internet speed is usually listed in Bits, rather than Bytes. 8 bits in a byte, so 825 MB file would be 6600 Mbs (Bytes is listed with capital B, bits lower case b). likely a marketing thing for ISPs to make it seem faster. similar to how HDD manufacturers list HDDs with a 1000-1 ratio instead of the actual 1024-1 ratio so that is why a 4 TB HDD never shows up as 4TBs when you get it.

You could always rent a VPN for one month just to test and see if your ISP is throttling your speeds.

Yeah the xbox 360 controller with the wireless adapter is good. I do use a wired one though.

I believe also you can just buy a cheap bluetooth adapter if its not currently one on your motherboard if you dont want to wire a ds4. I currently use one to connect my soundbar to the pc to save speaker space on my desk.

When i do plug into my tv i just run a long hdmi cable since they are opposite sides of thr room to eachother and it works fine.

If you have your budget pc parts picker will show you all compatible parts...shouldnt be too hard. Ive replaced processors graphics cards power boxes memory sticks fans etc with little knowledge and those are mainly your major components of a pc with the motherboard

My budget would be around 600-800 dollars depending if by spending a little more I could get a much better PC. The problem that I can have is that I need to wait for a familiar or friend to go to the US and having the pieces sent to his/her hotel since prices here would be around the double of the same pieces.
I've no problem waiting since my idea was building it around the second semester of this year so that could help me in getting a better PC with the same budget.

I think I'll get the adapter in case friends or my brothers get home and bring their DS4, that's a good thing to consider.

I've already taken a quick look into the last pages of this topic and I've seen that, they seem to know their stuff even though I got complete lost in what they said

Building one too. Went overkill a bit but I won't have to worry about upgrading anything major for a few years. I'll hit you up off here.

I've a mouse and a keyboard already. I don't have a monitor but I've a TV or would like to upgrade it to another with relatively low input lag. I guess that the best thing I could do is wait for Pascal to be released (whenever it is) and then look for what to choose.

What confuses or worries me (since I'm new on this) is that every video, article or page with a build there's always a "why did you choose X when Y would be better" or "I'd have got Z that's a little cheaper which gives similar results", as naming a few examples. It makes me hesitant about which build I should get, maybe I better share the ones I saw here for better opinions since I trust you guys better.
