that's pretty sick a Zotac mini 1080ti would be awesome but honestly i don't have the patience to build a itx build, I would most likely go micro atx as the smallest i would go. I'm a fan of showing off the interals and some rgb

Yeah, I had thought about the 1080 ti... If some benchmarks start dropping and there isn't a huge difference between the rtx 2080ti and 1080ti, I may still opt to go that way. I like the sleek, console look. Not a big RGB guy at all. I turned the "Aura" off on my mobo and ram in my current setup. It was blaring out of the fans, haha.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Well thank you WTF for sending me back to the drawing board lol...
Man I'm just getting lost (in a good way) in the world of ITX cases, I wanted a smaller case but didn't really think about how small they could get. Since I already have my GPU I'm kinda willing to spend a full build worth on everything else and that opens me up to some premium cases, the 2 I see as most likely being the Ncase M1 and the Dan A4 (check out pics and videos if you haven't, OptimumTech on YouTube has a great M1 build I'm modeling after). The way the Dan is designed just kinda blew me away, when I saw the Fractal Nano what stood out was the drive mounting, in that they're mounted on the back of mobo and there's no drive bay, and you can put all the excess cables underneath. Now seeing these small form cases with PCI risers and the graphics card split on the other side of the mobo... Just incredible man. I think I'm going to go with the N1 because I have a huge 3.5 drive for movies/shows and there's no room for a drive that size in the Dan. I also have 2 SSD's, one for boot, the other for games, I was thinking about moving the boot drive to an M2 but I don't think it's really necessary, still on the table.
And if I can get a 9900k on release, I will. Might as well just get the best and count the extra years without having to replace as savings.
Running numbers assuming the 9900k is $500, plus my mobo $180, SFF 600 W PSU $120, the only difference between the two will be the price of the case (M1 is $200 vs the Nano at $70) and I would get some extra Noctua fans for the M1 to try to alleviate heating issues. Last thing to consider is noise level, I haven't found a lot of impressions. If the M1 can run a full system fairly quietly, this is a no brainer for me.
You should 100% go with a NVME m2 drive. They are unreal.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I ordered a 1TB Samsung 860 M2 SATA drive to add to my system which currently only has a 960 NVMe.
Are there any issues I should look for as far as using M2 and SATA resources? I have 3 M2 ultra ports on my Mobo
Any tips would be appreciated!

Yes it should take away a sata port but you have to refer to your mobo manual on which ones

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Talked myself into a $200 case and the GPU won't even fit...:
I really love that M1 case, but my 1080 Armor is the one part I can't replace. The Dan A4 and Loque Ghost are even smaller (that design though). Guess Fractal Nano it is. My next full build probably 4 years from now will definitely be SFF. As someone who isn't really into RGB and doesn't even want a window panel, the benefits and aesthetic are incredible. Insane the power you can pack into these babies. And the fact that all of the cases I'm looking at were Kickstarted. The PC community is the best. From comments to videos to guys doing custom cable sets, something that could be very difficult gets made so easy.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I came really close to going Mini-ITX build on this last build. At the last min, I backed out and went back to old faithful, a regular mid tower ATX build. I wanted a small "console" type build but I've never gave up ram slots, SLI capabilities, good cooling, etc so I backed out, out of fear. Part of me wishes I didn't, but part of me is happy I did because my current build is great. I think one more build cycle (next 3 to 4 years) and we will see small form factor becoming much more main stream. In just the last couple years has it really took off and I expect that to become a little more common moving ahead.
The Nano is huge for an ITX case so there's plenty of room for whatever I want to do in there... I just don't really want to do anything. Feels like a waste of space, I'm trying to look at the positive of if I ever do decide I want the space it'll still be there, but I doubt that happens. I might've talked myself out of building entirely.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Definitely agree. There are big enough companies making motherboards, but the PSU market isn't great, Corsair holding it down but capping out at 600W is a little rough, even though I've read that's more than enough for most. They're supposed to be releasing their platinum graded version soon. In the case world, the Raijintek Ophion and Ophion Evo are coming out before the end of the year, they have the Dan MOBO/GPU split design, and are supposed to be more affordable. The ingenuity of the community never ceases to amaze me. People were just like "why aren't there any small cases? I'm gonna make a small case" and here we are.

For me, if I would do it over at this moment, I'd go micro-atx. It's not a tiny build but near perfect size for me (a small sub woofer in size). While still retaining all the ram and PCI slots you would ever need for stretching a build out.
Mini-ITX builds are shrinking but they are not worth the trade off for me......at least yet.Last edited by Phobia; 09-05-2018, 11:11 PM.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Very true, they need a few more PSU's in the SFX/SFX-L range of 700w+. That is a key factor when you have people wanting to put 1080 Ti's/2080 Ti's in these tiny cases. A 600 is more than likely enough but most in that camp would like to sit at 700+ for overhead.

That's the reason I passed on the Nano too, was the size was still larger than what I wanted to do. It kind of defeated the purpose of an ITX/HTPC build. I love my current case.Twitter - WTF_OS
