The NCIX stuff is bonkers. I ordered my 750ti from them years ago and have moved/canceled card since then. Still don't like details being out there. ZDNet had a really good article on some guy finding them on Craigslist.

Depends on if you're gonna travel and game or not. If not, I'd prob go w the desktop. Power wise, they're gonna be about the same. But like you mentioned, the ability to upgrade in the future is a big win.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Just finished up a new AMD build and it's been working out quite well, highly recommended if you still just have a 1080p monitor like I do. Went from an FX6300 with a 7870 to a Ryzen 5 2600 and an RX580.
Next up is a FreeSync monitor when I find a decent deal on one. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations. Probably sticking with 1080p but could jump up to 1440p if the price is right.Comment

I'm looking at the price on the 9900k like... An Amd build doesn't sound so bad right now.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Yeah, I still roll with a 3930k and that was like... $650 I think?
Granted it's a bit long in the tooth these days so I'll upgrade in the next year or two, but it was absolutely worth it at the time.
That said, AMD processors are nothing to sneeze at. I'll probably end up getting one next.badComment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
The price in a vacuum isn't the worst, it's more the price vs the price of AMD processors plus the value. Benchmarks, that are being questioned, put the 9900k at 50% faster than the 2700x. I just find it hard to believe AMD won't have a chip that's much closer if not better in March and cost less.
What I really need are accurate benchmarks and for it to get in the wild to see how the soldered heatspreader plays out in action. Still planning on a tiny build so anything that runs cooler is a big plus for me seeing as I can't fit in anything other than a tiny cooler.
Been following the progress of the S550 on sff.net, looks like the case for me. Prototypes this weekend!Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 10-11-2018, 08:42 AM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I'm hoping the rumors are true and there's a small refresh to the 580 coming soon to boost that 1440p performance a bit. Got a pretty good deal on my 580 in the first place so wouldn't mind selling it making a small upgrade to a 680 or whatever it'll be called to go with the new monitor.Comment

They have good sales on PC parts usually every other week some where. Either Amazon, Newegg, Micro Center. Some weeks at the same time. Just have to keep an eye out and check each website on a regular basis. Black Friday really isn't good for PC parts. They have sales, but very limited amounts.Comment
