If that doesn't fix you issue, than you have a bigger issue.

Yeah talked to my roommate that is a mail carrier, they still work. It's odd, I always considered the post office a federal job but according to my friend while some aspects are federal a lot of it is not. Like the pay isn't federal paid, it's pay from the funds from their customer base. Basically a self supporting organization.

They are essentially only federal employees when it's convenient according to him.

So the last week or so I've noticed my FPS in games have dropped off slightly. Its not a drastic drop off but 6 to 10 FPS is enough to take notice. I've done a number of checks from monitoring processes while under load to digging deeper with MSI Afterburner. Here is what I've found and wanted to get a second opinion, I think I've found the problem but wanted to see what you guys think.

                        Things that checked out ok
                        1. No processes hogging CPU or using CPU at bad time
                        2. GPU Temps under max load never get over 55c
                        3. GPU Clock will max out (So full potential being utilized)
                        4. GPU Fan speed operating correctly with spikes in GPU horse power
                        5. RAM only meeting a max in the 5 Gb range, under extreme multitasking.

Things that stood out as odd
                        1. Page file growing in size from a couple Mb to upwards of 8+ Gb in size while gaming. Why would my RAM only use 55% of its capacity but the page file is using almost double?
                        2. CPU Cores are NOT parked, yet when in ARMA, which is a CPU extensive game I'm only utilizing 50% of my CPU. The issue I'm finding is that Core 1 and Core 2 will get in the 80 to 90% usage range where Core 3 and Core 4 only in the 8 to 10% usage.

                        Things to fix
                        1. I did find one area I want to correct. While it is not a issue yet, I don't want it to develop into one. CPU core temps range in the 50's C BUT Core 1 has seen spikes of up to 66C. So I'm going to order a CM Hyper 212 Evo Cooler to bring these temps down for longevity safety.

                        Conclusion Time
So judging by what the stats are saying, I'm assuming the paging file issue might be causing my drop in FPS. I'm going to test tonight with no paging file and then a 4Gb one to see how Ram usage & FPS are affected. I mean, why would my system use the paging file instead of my fast ram? This seems the most likely culprit. Obviously my hard drive being used as almost 9Gbs of "RAM" is much slower than utilizing my RAM itself.

While the Cores being used stood out to me, I'm thinking this is normal for ARMA, which just falls on it being poorly optimized/utilizing CPUs. Obviously my CPU is not being held back by the 290 considering 100% utilization from the GPU but only 50% usage from CPU.

The CPU temps I don't believe are causing the drop to FPS, but is an area that needs to be fix, so it does not become a problem later. Climbing close to 70C makes me uneasy.

So what do you guys think?

Edit: I forgot I mentioned the power consumption because judging my wattage being used I'm in the 650+ range on my 700w. So I'm considering upgrading to a 850w or 1000w in the near future. I'm wondering if my CPU is not getting enough power at times when all these devices are under peak load. Maybe fluctuations on the rails causing the issue?

With only one video card your power consumption getting up in the 650+ range seems extremely high. Even with so many peripherals plugged in it seems high. A PC with a non-OCd CPU and a slightly overlocked 290 shouldn't need an 850w power supply.

Well that is taking into account capacitor aging which will produce less total output. My Powersupply is from my last build back in 2006, so its almost 10 years old. I'm sure its well below the 700w output currently, but for the wattage used I just went off this website. http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp

This accounts for the aging. While I'm sure not 100% accurate, it does leave me concerned it could be a power issue.

Ok so I'm running some tests on my paging file issue and check this out.

If you look at bottom while under load my page file grew to 6Gb, while my Ram in game only went to 3Gb

Here is the thing, I manually set it to 2Gb, why it still growing past?
