    Re: Spider-Man: Homecoming

I'm all for diversity, but it just comes across, to me, as lazy to change an existing character's gender/ethnicity in the name of diversity. I'd much rather the writers address the real issue and put in some work to create some compelling diverse characters.

Has it been confirmed that this decision was a diversity PC move, as some are calling it, over simply the movie personnel picking her because she was the best option?

Zendaya is half white, so being part black makes it not acceptable to play Mary Jane? Dye her hair red forPeter's sake. Super silly to even be remotely disturbed by it.

We are talking about Queens NY also which is diverse as you can get and i'm glad this movie is looking to represent that. I'm glad this generation of kids can get a John Hughes type movie that is diverse.

Seriously, we've had Mary Jane in 5 movies and she's been white and once the race is changed by 50% the internet goes ape ****. We are gonna see so many versions of Mary Jane even after we are all dead so chill out. I even hope Ice Cube is Jonah Jamieson then everyone is gonna flip out.

Non-white MJ? I simply don't care. All I care about is the movie being enjoyable to me.

So by default, you want Othello, a 500 year old fictional character, to be white. And for every Marvel character to be hispanic.

At least that's how I was informed that I think.

I think by default I simply don't care, as long as it doesn't detract from the content.

                          I like the raisin analogy.

But here's my question: You have an endless supply of raisins from which to supply the two bowls. If the bowls are not balanced, rather than take from one bowl to fill the other, why not adjust the supply to ensure both bowls are properly balanced?

White character gets a certain role = 'white washing'.

POC gets a certain role = "PC move/pandering'.

We have still a long way to go, fellow humans.

I do agree with what others have said that it is cool that we are getting a cast that looks the age of the characters in the story.

My biggest hope is that we get a good Spider-Man story and down the road we get a another chance to see Venom/symbiotes (if they ever manage to do Carnage in a movie without totally neutering him, man I would love that) at some point. Can't say I was a huge fan of Spidey 3-Topher Grace venom, personally.

Agreed. I want the real Venom... please Marvel. Massive, psychotic, funny moments due to being psychotic, and just downright beastly.
