The services were just running at or below costs to build a subscriber base.
We pay 80 bucks plus a month with 2 tv's and the standard pkg, no extra frills. We have a niece in IL and they never pay more than 80 bucks a month. They've been with DTV for 7 yrs, we've been with them since late 90's.

I just get on the phone with them when the year is up and get loyalty discounts back down to 80 plus.

I guess it depends how long you have been a member.

Back before I went back to DirecTV, we thought streaming was the way to go, but realized we were paying just as much for streaming stuff as we would for satelite. I think I'm on the first year of my contract and we pay $70.

Right now they really don't care, so not offering a lot. I'm in contract from when I moved, I could try but I'm waiting and if they don't offer me a great deal then I'll be done. I've been a customer for a long time.

I know it's a business, but I was so disappointed with Dish that they couldn't/wouldn't do more to keep our business after 15 or so years...it was like, "Don't let the door hitchya..." That final experience alone makes me happy to do what we're doing now, despite the some of the concessions.

            Re: Cord cutting

If I could choose my own TV package, I'd subscribe to sports channels all year long and then a handful of regular channels on a month by month basis depending when season premieres/finales are.

Actually...maybe that's a route to go in the future. I probably could get all the channels I need + internet + streaming services for under $120 a month.

Although sports channels alone here cost about $40 total a month so that's the big expense.

That's the key. I was looking at AT&T TV yesterday. Pretty solid channel package for $65/month but the it's $110 after the first year.

Honestly, it's not that bad to me, I've been saving like $45 a month for the past year.

Did some research and were going to try out the Sling TV Blue package + Sports Extra for $40 + tax and move on from YouTube TV

Let us know how it goes.

It is the "tail-chasing" circus. From one service to another, to one package within the service to another, you get this but not that for this price, but for a little more you get this because it includes what you want but with a whole bunch of what you don't need. Each person will have that precise individual need that settles on a provider. We landed on an ok arrangement that requires some workaround, but the price is right.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

When I had DirecTV and service fee increased I would call to "cancel" and then go through that whole game. Of course, the last time I called and did that they didn't offer me any credits or discounts so I split.
