    Re: Cord cutting

Just checked out the NBC/Universal Peacock service. Downloaded the app and just scrolled through what TV shows they had. Pretty weak list in terms of things I'd be interested in or haven't seen on anywhere else.

The only show I noticed it has that I have not seen anywhere else is King of Queens.

This always works with optimum over here in NY. Just call and cancel and call back within the hour and they’re offering you new customer prices

This could work. I was paying $130 for the whole DT/ATT internet TV and VOIP triple play for two years. After I cancelled they offered me the entire package for $80 for a year. Got tired of the dropped TV every time it would even threaten rain.

Same thing happened to me. I don't quite remember when I cancelled maybe 1.5 years ago but maybe you and I did that around the same time and during that time period they just decided they weren't gonna make that offer anymore?

Who knows. Their customer service had gone downhill so it was probably just the whim of the employee honestly. I do not miss it or paying for it.

Having worked in customer service for Directv before, during and briefly after AT&T bought them I can tell you with 100% certainty that the lack of discounts or promos being given out to retain customers was AT&T's doing. Prior to AT&T taking over every agent had a weekly amount of credits they could give and there was next to zero oversight as once you reached that maximum the system cut you off. Once AT&T took over they scrapped that entire system, made all credits require authorization from above and generally they wouldn't be approved.

Thanks for the insight. I'm fairly certain I called them after the acquisition so that makes even more sense now.

It is the "tail-chasing" circus. From one service to another, to one package within the service to another, you get this but not that for this price, but for a little more you get this because it includes what you want but with a whole bunch of what you don't need. Each person will have that precise individual need that settles on a provider. We landed on an ok arrangement that requires some workaround, but the price is right.
Well this didn't work. Sling's packages are incredibly confusing. So Sling Blue doesn't get ESPN through the sports extra package, because that's only available on the Sling Orange package. But the Sling Orange package doesn't get MLB Network, because that's only available on the Sling Blue package. And the wife needs Bravo, which is only available on Sling Blue.

What a fiasco. Cancelled Sling and going back to Youtube. We'll just bite the bullet and pay the $65/month

Sling really tries to nickel and dime, with the hope that people will just bite the bullet and get both the tiers, along with extras. Their international sports standalone deal is pretty good for 9.99 a month if you watch soccer and cricket. Had that for a few months pre-pandemic.

Well you gave it a go. Cord-cutting is pretty fickle right now. Sure, there a zillion options but only YTTV gives you that "satellite/Cable-esque" service. Too bad that PSV folded up the tent; at least they were competition.

I had DirecTV before, but cancelled it when we lost sports in March. With the NBA coming back, I'm looking hard at YouTubeTV. Any caveats you guys know of before I take the plunge?

I'm not happy about it, but I'm back on YouTube TV. Easily the best streaming service out there IMO.

YouTube TV is as close as you'll get to traditional TV that I've found, that doesn't have any shady aspects to it

No caveats. We've had it for a year and half and it does the job. No, it isn't DTV or Dish, but like I said, it does the job.

Have had Youtube for several months and really enjoyed it. Got it mainly for Fox Sports Midwest to watch my local baseball team. But as the season is about to start I find I have lost much interest in pro sports. That coupled with with Youtube raising their prices 30% in the middle of a pandemic when many people are struggling, I decided to cancel Youtube and go back to sling, Blue only.

                                And not looking back.
