Assuming I'd be able to renegotiate again with AT&T, cost would be about the same for me. But with WOW/YT TV, I'd be paying for faster internet rather than extra channels I don't watch. Definitely tempting to go that route.
I just looked into DirecTV's bundle options with the internet speed I currently have and it's more expensive than staying with YTTV, especially in the second year.

      Re: Cord cutting

I still have U-Verse, which is being phased out. I pay $95 a month for the U300 with Internet 18. Technically, they don't offer speeds that slow anymore, but I live too far from the crossbox to get anything faster from AT&T. At least until they put fiber in my neighborhood.

I can get 200 mpbs internet for $45 or 500 for $55 from a different provider. So I'm looking at $110/120 if I go that route with YTTV.

I get about a $70 a month discount on my U-Verse TV. But I'm not sure if they'll give me that again since they're trying to get people off of U-Verse now. They're no longer taking new customers.

If AT&T won't cut me a deal again on U-Verse, it's a no-brainer for me to switch to YTTV (or possibly Hulu). If they will cut me a deal, then I have a decision. Faster internet would be nice. As would the flexibility to cancel and switch without a contract. I always told myself I'd switch to Vue when it got my local channels. YTTV reminds me of Vue and it has my locals.

I don't have any interest in ATT TV (what they're pushing now) or DirecTV since I'd be locked in to slow speeds.

I had Vue and YTTV was the most similar I could find when Vue discontinued

I've been pretty happy with YTTV so far. A bit of an adjustment as far as the guide, etc., but overall I like it. Definitely considering going with it over AT&T next month when my contract is up.

One weird issue I'm having: Any FX on Demand movie (I haven't tried shows) gives me terrible stuttering. Literally a frame every 3-4 seconds. And it's just FX On Demand. And just on my TV. It's fine on my iPad. I watched Deadpool on FX Live last night with no issue. But if I try the On Demand version, I get the stuttering. I can watch TNT On Demand no problem.

YTTV tech support is looking into it. Just a really weird issue since it's just FX On Demand. Guess I should mention that YTTV tech support has been awesome so far too. Very responsive.

Yeah it is costly. I'm over $200 per month because of Directv. I'll make a decision at the end of the year and pick one of the streaming options most likely. The taxes and fees are high and then the additional cost for each TV. Streaming will always be lower because the taxes and fees, but it was never going to be cheaper in long run without all the those additional costs. The services were just running at or below costs to build a subscriber base.

Was thinking about switching to YouTube TV if it ever became available in my area but now I'm increasingly worried a bandwidth. Can't be worrying about something like that it would be like my fear it would rain during an important game when I had Dish Network.

I feel like one day we'll be living in a time where people will be looking for one service which has everything they need in it, aka what cable tv has been for the most part.

Nowadays it feels like people end up paying just as much if not more once you add up how much they're paying for things like netflix + sports subscriptions and so on.

Wasn't the whole point of streaming so that people pay less for what they want?

I always felt like the point of streaming is people can choose what they want and don’t have to have everything bundled in. If they can’t resist that urge and end up paying more than they did for cable, they lost.

I'm definitely still paying less, even factoring in YouTube's price increase

Well, what people really wanted was "a la carte" selections of channels, to pick and choose. That's what they wanted, they didn't get it and probably will never get it either.

They tried that here, but because the country is run by an oligopoly, it flopped big time.

Providers charged a ridiculous price for people to choose a few channels they want. Got to the point where it's cheaper taking literally any other plan.

My current provider has "flex channels" in their new plan. You can swap in and out a select number of channels every month. Good news is it let's you pick what you want and don't want. Bad news is that they don't always provide the widest variety of channels people want.

Yes there will be a few big networks you could choose from in this grouping, but for every ESPN Classics or MLB network channel are 5 silver screen classic movie channels.

                                23. MLB Network
                                24. NBA TV
                                25. NFL Network
                                26. NHL Network
                                27. NBCSN

                                32. E!

Meh, we could dispense with the final 2, probably 4. It is just the power of putting a channel on and not having to actually "choose" what to watch. For example, I can watch any Seinfeld episode that I want whenever I want but I don't want to have to choose which episode to watch. So then I just can put TBS on and whatever episode they are showing I go: "nice".
