Re: Gamestop has 360 allocations
Originally posted by kodiakThats not correct anymore. Gamestop corp has the same buying power as Wal-Mart. They both have 25% of the market. Best Buy comes in third. I can also say that MS gave Gamestop about 24,000 more units than the original number. That does not count what EB is getting. The problem was before the merger, and to some extent even now, EB is/was doing their own thing. I can also tell you that Wal-Mart's allocation averages out to about 8-10 a store at launch. BB is a little higher due to the low number of stores. Good luck to all on your quest and happy hunting.Comment

Re: Gamestop has 360 allocations
EB/Gamestop is no where near, in the same league as Wal-Mart as far as buying power or influence in the market.
As the poster above has stated, Wal-Mart in the largest retailer in the entire world. They are one of the most influential businesses in the world as well. There is simply no way that Gamestop has the market share of Wal-Mart.
I would love to be proven wrong, but I simply haven't seen any evidence of such.
As far as Gamestop getting the same percentage of allocations as Wal-Mart, that could be true, but it has nothing to do with market share.
Here is a story that kind of explains what I am trying to say a little better:
Xbox 360 to be in short supply at launch?
10/26/2005 10:29:01 AM, by Eric Bangeman
If you haven't already preordered an Xbox 360 at your favorite retailer, you may be hard-pressed to find one come launch. And if you did, you may be disappointed anyway. Reports are that supplies of the consoles at launch are going to be limited, even for big-box retailers like Best Buy.
As the Thanksgiving-week US launch inches closer, Xbox 360 availability has become a hot topic of debate. Some are of the opinion that Microsoft is attempting to excite consumers into a rabid, Xbox-buying frenzy by slashing the amount of inventory made available to retailers and then waiting for news of reported shortages to create even more demand for the next-generation console. Sounds good, especially if you're Microsoft, right?
But there appears to be truth to the rumblings about lower-than-expected allocations of consoles. Reliable sources at some major retailers tell Ars Technica that they have been informed by Microsoft that they will be getting as few as one-third the number of Xbox 360s that they had planned for. The rest of those initial shipments are being diverted to the likes of Wal-Mart and Japan.
Those reports make sense. Because of its giant reach, Wal-Mart has the leverage to demand as many consoles as it wants. It makes sense for Microsoft to give the largest retailer in the US what it wants, even at the expense of other retailers. Getting as many Xbox 360s to Japan as possible at launch time is understandable in light of Microsoft's stated desire to capture as much of that market as possible before the release of the PlayStation 3 from hometown-favorite Sony.
If you've preordered an Xbox 360, don't be too surprised if you get an apologetic e-mail or phone call telling you that you won't be able to walk out of the store with a new console on November 22 as you had hoped. (Two such people have contacted us about this already, one of whom is a trusted source with connections to retail.) Microsoft needs to play the supply-and-demand game carefully, though. If the 360 is too scarce, it may cause some consumers to take a pass on the console until after the holiday shopping season, or simply wait for the PS3 in 2006. The company's best hope is to have as many Xbox 360s available as are needed to meet demand. There's nothing like news of brisk sales to create a positive buzz around a product launch.Last edited by jpup; 11-08-2005, 05:55 AM.NFL: Tennessee Titans

Re: Wal Mart Shortage
My Walmart is getting 2 systems. I live in a pretty big area too. Went to Best Buy last night, the manager there told me they are getting in 48 systems. No preorders though.Comment

Re: Wal Mart Shortage
I am guessing Wal Mart and Target will get HUGE shipments in December as MS rolls out there marketing to the masses then as well.
1. Fill as many preorders and create as much hype as possible among hardcore people.
2. Friends begin to hear and see how cool it is as MS pushes the console via advertisements
3. Fill areas where those people shop.

Re: Are TOYS R US being legit?
I'm not worried. The fact that they waited until last weekend to do pre-orders, and they are limiting the amount per store, tells me that their allocations are set. Of course, I can't be 100% sure until I have the system in my hands, but I'm confident that it will be there.XBL: Mean Greene

Re: Gamestop has 360 allocations
Im not liking this at all.
I pre-ordered from my Gamestop here in July. I am going to call over to the store today and see where I am on the list.
If I am not guaranteed one on launch day and am in danger of not getting one until Mid-December I will go over to Wal-Mart and camp for 5-6 hours. It's worth it IMO... don't ya'll think 5-6 hrs will be good enough?
If I find out I am too low and won't get one for a while... will GS give me a refund or is that money locked in? I put 50$ down in July.. under the impression I would get one at launchComment
