Unless you have an HDTV set, you'll never see the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD. And considering that Hi-Def adoption is currently at 24% and more than half of consumers are waiting for price drops, the target market for Blu-Ray is not as lucrative as one might believe. When DVDs hit the market, there were several reasons to purchase them. For one, the quality far surpassed VHS. Additionally, menus and extra features made DVD content easier to access and gave it more value. Also, DVDs don't degrade in quality over time, making them a better long-term investment. The jump from DVD to Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD) is not as significant, unless you're an HDTV owner. Even then, the question remains: Is Blu-Ray content going to be compelling enough to make me say "I have to have it?"
I agree I dont see Bluray (or HD-DVD) having this effect.Comment

I'm not suggesting anything, I don't game online, nor do I care which way Sony goes. All I am saying is that you can say that there is "no way" Sony's service can match or exceed what Live has to offer.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Sony will showcase the PlayStation 3 (PS3) at the upcoming Taipei Game Show (TGS) 2006, which takes place between February 16-20. This will be a first Taipei showing for Sony’s new game console, prior to the official worldwide launch of the unit, although Sony has already shown the PS3 in the US and Japan.
Sony’s exhibit will occupy a total of 80 booths at the TGS show, including 20 booths allocated exclusively for the PS3, according to a February 9 report in the Chinese-language Commercial Times.
The Taipei showing is a move, by Sony, in a marketing campaign against its rival Microsoft, which will begin to market its Xbox 360 in Taiwan, starting March 16, the paper said.
In addition to a recent announcement of lower prices for the Xbox 360 when it first goes on sale, Microsoft Taiwan also stated on February 8 that it will market a total of 19 game titles for the Xbox 360, to coincide with its official launch in Taipei, instead of 15 titles as originally planned, according to the report.
The 19 titles include PGR 3 (Project Gotham Racing 3), designed by Microsoft Game Studios, NBA 6 by Electronic Arts, Call of Duty 2 by Activision, Ridge Racer 6 by Namco, and Dead or Alive 4 by Tecmo, the report stated.

Originally posted by FootballForeverReading that link, ans if you go back many post, I too said it seems like sony os worring about making this system more then agaimng system, when indeed they should be worring about the gaming part instead of other things.
It's a business decision, and there's HUGE market share to be won for the companies that have the foresight to position themselves for where this is headed. That's also why you see companies like Toshiba and Samsung partnering to mitigate the risk of going at it alone. I'm not going to be happy either if the gaming portion isn't as good as it could be...but I also won't spend the money if it's just not worth it. I gotta think with all the money they're putting into it, the losses they'll take upfront, and where they want to go in the future, they simply cannot afford to slack on the core part of the console. From a business standpoint, not a Sony fanboy, there's more reason to be optimistic than worried. Now the licensing in sports games, that's another story!!Comment
