I try to discuss the hard drive, why it's needed, what size. Your response, "Dont worry, Sony has it covered."
I try to discuss why Sony would put Linux on hard drive. Your response, "Chill, Sony has it all covered."
This thread is for discussion of everthing related to the PS3, yet all you want to say is Sony has everything covered, no one needs to worry about anything.Comment

The ACTing as you say, isn't being done on my part.

I think that qualifies. I am above replying to your statement.
System Wars and Game Wars
Unlike many other sites, the Operation Sports community covers all gaming platforms and games. Fanboyism benefits no one. We encourage intelligent discussions about the merits and flaws of each system, but senseless console and/or game bashing will not be tolerated.
If this is what were going by, fine. No more. If I stop being so adamant about everything I say, than I expect every moderator and poster who support the xbox 360 not to come in this thread and talk down the PS3 just because it's the competition. That is ridiculous.
If you can carry on a civil discussion, I will be adhere to be a better listener and understand the reasoning for your post. But I will simply not tolerate any number of you bashing me because I don't share your opinions.Comment

Originally posted by APOCI disagree. I believe blu-ray will be used right from the get-go. When it will be used to it's maximum capacity is anyone's guess. We don't know.
I'm just going by the history of launch titles. The launch titles always seem to be the rushed and sub-par set of the group. I highly doubt there is a developer that will drop a blue-ray launch titles that is mediocore or rushed just to build up the hype. And think what if the first launch blue-ray title turns out to be a weak game. That would certainly kill any hype that Sony is tryna build up for blue-ray. I believe the games utilizing blue-ray will trickle in like the dvd games of the PS2. I also think there will be but a few games that utilizes its maximum capacity throughout the entire consoles lifespan. For some odd reason, devs(or publishers for that mater) dont like taking chances at creating games that feature tons of content. Remember, you gotta save something for the imenent sequel.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

APOC, I think you forgot about this section of the TOS:
Impersonating Other Users / Accessing Another User's Account / Holding Multiple Usernames
You may not impersonate another board member or create an account specifically for the purpose of provoking other users. Also, accessing or using someone else's account or attempting to access another poster's account is strictly prohibited. Users are restricted to a single username. Users who wish to create a second username must have that request approved by a member of the moderating staff before the account is created.Comment

I'm going to say it now. Everyone that opts to discuss this topic is on already on thin ice. I will not tolerate any attacks of another member, or any discussion that leads to a "system war".

Graphik, you raise a very good point. If the first Blu Ray 'blessed' game turns out to be a pile of crap what does that say about the high price paid for the Blu Ray player that plays games? I'm really trying to grasp the real purpose of a mega high capacity optical drive right now for next-gen games. We already have PCs with comparable graphics cards as next-gen consoles and they have more than 2 times the capacity of a DL Blu Ray disk. How are all these hyped technologies supposed to propel us into the next phase of gaming?Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games & more discussion...
APOC, I have not been bashing the PS3 in here, just questioning the speculation that you referred to earlier. SONY has a history of overhyping everything, so you really have to take everything they say with a grain of salt.
So let me recap. I believe Ken stated at one point or another that the system would not ship with a HDD. Is this wrong or right?
If it doesnt ship with an HDD, then there is no way there is DVR out of the box. And to run DVR, the PS3 will need a much bigger harddrive than the xbox 360 has, which will only increase the price of the system even more. For this reason, I believe the PS3 will not ship with a DVR.
Sony will not sell 2 SKUS's with one having blu ray and one not. Thats just stupid. However you have to understand, Sony isnt putting a Blu-Ray player in the PS3 to promote big games. Ya thats an advantage, but Sony is putting a Blu-Ray player in each PS3 to get those players into the most households possible, and give them the best chance at winning the war in Hollywood against HD-DVD. Its common knowledge that a Blu-Ray disc cost much more than an HD-DVD disc to produce, because it requires new technology to do so. For this reason, I expect no launch games to be on the Blu-Ray format because 1) No Developer needs that much space yet and 2) it would make games $80 due to the production costs. Developers will stick to putting their games on DVD9 format for at least the next year. Over the lifespan of the console, I dont think there will be many Blu-Ray games at all.
Ken has also stated that something along the lines of "this thing wont be priced toward average households." That could prove to be deadly to Sony in the long run if they cant keep the costs down.
And I'm also interested to see the yield they can get on the new Cell chips. I expect Sony will run into several manufactoring problems when they begin to mass produce the chip, because there is really no way around it...
If this was considered a bash against you or the PS3, I apologize, its just how I feel.Last edited by dagger55; 02-06-2006, 02:01 PM.Comment
