But the majority of us want gaming! Don't surcharge us for all the home entertainment bullshuck!!! Give me the gaming machine and charge me $399 if you want. Don't give me all that other ish that we don't want and charge me more than the cost of the competition's console.

Fair argument.

The answer is simple.

If you don't like what is has to offer, don't buy it.

Not everyone shares your opinion. A lot of people WILL want this to not only be a great gaming console, but state-of-the-art home entertainment as well.

What is wrong with you ppl. 600 bucks for a console? Especially when they is another console out 200 dollars cheaper. I know Sony has the name but *******, there will be plenty of ppl waiting for a price drop.

Also, the more I read this thread, the more half of this stuff speculated to be included in the PS3 sounds like hype. DVRs, Blue-Rays, 80 GB HDD, PS3 Live? Its sounds like to much to be true. If Sony wants to compete for the long run against MS, it would be wise of them to ditch a few of these features and settle for a competitive price point. Otherwise, the price will turn a few potential consumers off.

And remember, I'm all about the price. If Sony has all these glorious features, great but half this stuff I dont even need. Make most of these detachable additional features and let the diehards blow their money. I just want it to play games and have a nice online service.

You make a valid point, however I think all Sony is trying to do is "future proof" the PS3... The features mentioned won't add cost to the PS3 (The DVR might if its built in) but SonyConnect, PS3 Live etc... those can be done through firmware updates at no cost to the customer..

The PSP is getting the SonyConnect feature this March, will PSP owners have to pay for this firmware update? Nope only for the content they download from SonyConnect.

As I stated before the only thing that sticks out on that feature list that will drive up cost is the DVR... And that functionality will most likely be part of the HDD, which it self is almost certain to be an add-on making it optional.

The cost to put a Blu-Ray drive into the PS3 will be far less than a standalone player; as stated in the PSM...Whch leads me to believe the price will indeed be competitive granted they DON'T include the hard drive.

I've never heard of Sony getting into the DVR market. People can already get a proven DVR from Samsung, RCA, etc., with Tivo software on it. I can't imagine people wanting to pay extra for a product that a company has never tried before. Again, I would like to point out that I would like the PS3 to play games and do it well. I don't want to pay an extra $50 or $100 for a feature on the PS3 that I already have. I mean, while we're at it, let's go ahead and put a DVD recordable drive in their too and charge another $50. It's getting ridiculous.

my 360 has not frozen one time in game. It has frozen one time at the dashboard. Sorry to disappoint you.

I've also had the 360 since the day it came out and i've had 0 problems..actually know of 4 guys who have 0 problems..Itz a lot less then he thinks

is that the best your have to offer? don't buy it? when it's obvious that I do want a PS3. Would just like to have most of the focus on gaming. Multifunctionality could lead to a ton of problems with the way companies try to cut cost to manufacture the consoles.

ive said it before ill say it again.

i have 4 friends who have launch consoles like myself, and we have had zero problems. i also know 6 other people who have gotten post launch consoles, and again, zero problems.

the defect unit % is your typical 3%-5%, and anyone who thinks Sony wont be that high either is just plain ignorant, especially with Sony mass producing the new Cell processor.

I can see where your coming from. Sounds like the PS3 isn't for you. I willing to bet a lot of people out there (even fence-sitters) would be thrilled to have a system that is capable of so much.

If you don't want all of these great features that you'll never take advantage of, there are other consoles that may suit you better.

No, but you are constantly complaining about it. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Buy something else. And no, it's not obvious that you want one.

I can understand you just want a GAMING console. But there is so much more to utilize in these next-gen systems.

I don't know how this is gonna play out, Sony has taken a huge risk with Blu-Ray. I have enough faith in Sony to believe they will deliver, and then some. All we can do is wait and see.

Right on, I mean , I understand how some of you guys feel; especially about Blu-Ray...Unfortunatly thats one PS3 feature that won't be optional..It does make me feel better about the price knowing that the Blu-Ray drive in PS3 is cheaper to implement than standalone players. I'm okay with a $399-$499 price range, anything higher and even I would be a little disappointed.. I won't lie though, if it does come out to be say $599, I would still get it..Only because its something I've waiting a long time for and I know I'm guaranteed great games.
