What's going on? Sorry, I'm totally confused. Did Sony lose rights to Dual Shock or something? What's Immersion?Originally posted by luv_mistMy heart just sank. Did M$ buy some of the shares of Immersion? I wonder what patent they exactly have on the controller and what Sony is going to do. That really sucks if they have to pay 30 million a year.Xbox 360 GamertagRAW 910

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
I guess they never had the rights to begin with as this company was first to have the technology patented, and some how SONY didn't pay them which I'm kind of confused at that point. Almost 6 years later, they are getting sued.Originally posted by Ice Cream TruckWhat's going on? Sorry, I'm totally confused. Did Sony lose rights to Dual Shock or something? What's Immersion?Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
You guys are feeding on old news, MS bought stock in immersion after it had to pay a fine 2 to 3 years ago, Sony was just stubborn and fought the law suit and appealed it 3 times and now its final. During the battle MS became a majority stock holder in immersion. Hence the change in design in the controller and it not being final.
This news is very old yet new at the same time, so you will see a controller designed to take advantage of the eyetoy and sony will try too seperate itseld from DS with some outrageous statement that will make most say typical sony.
I can envision sony saying the rumble feature makes your wireless controller lose energy faster and they will couple that with the fact that the PSP doesn't have a rumble feature and the games are still immersive. Your controller will be fully intergrated with the eyetoy to off set the rumble feature in which sony will say is so last gen.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
I think the way it works is Immersion had patent rights to the rumble feature used in both the DualShock 2 and the Xbox controllers. Immersion called out both companies Sony and Microsoft and threatened to sue both of them claiming they had infringed on their rights to the technology.Originally posted by candyman56I guess they never had the rights to begin with as this company was first to have the technology patented, and some how SONY didn't pay them which I'm kind of confused at that point. Microsoft fought it and later settled out of court. They then bought a stake in the company, Immersion. Sony on the other hand refused to recognize Immersion and did not consider them to be the original patent holders of the DualShock technology. Sony has repeatedly appealed their case to the higher courts and each time they lost.Comment

Oh ya, ps3 confirmed to be region free, I'll be playing some winning eleven and japanese baseball games, albeit this is not a sports forum.
It's like sony is trying to please the hackers with this and supposed linux support.Comment

If the PS3 is actually released Region free, that would be the biggest reason why I would buy one. Those Japanes Baseball games alone would make it worth it for me.Last edited by bkrich83; 03-24-2006, 02:10 PM.Comment

The Japanese have some damn fine boxing games too. If the PS3 is region free, I would purchase that over an X-box 360 next fall when I buy my next gen system. Even if the PS3 is $100-$200 more.Originally posted by bkrich83If the PS3 is actually released Region 3, that would be the biggest reason why I would buy one. Same here...They take their baseball games quite seriously and seem to always have innovate interfaces and dynasty modes.Originally posted by bkrich83If the PS3 is actually released Region 3, that would be the biggest reason why I would buy one. That cartoon baseball game (Pawuparu or something) looks kind of cool too. Like RBI baseball, but with actual player tendencies and great animations.Comment

I don't know why they make it seem so special to have linux on there. Some people already have linux on the original xbox.Originally posted by RonokoOh ya, ps3 confirmed to be region free, I'll be playing some winning eleven and japanese baseball games, albeit this is not a sports forum.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Really? I would like to play Victorious Boxers and other japanese games but not for 160-260 more (price of the PS3 and a game).Originally posted by fistofrageThe Japanese have some damn fine boxing games too.
