    Try $600....OUCH!

When asked about the rumors that the console would cost around 500 dollars, Fornay stated, "Well, listen, if we take into account Blu-ray, HD, we see Blu-ray players at 1000 euros or more, [PS3] will be extremely cheap when compared to that. When we look at the gaming aspect, it is true that today consoles were generally well below 500 euros (roughly $614 U.S.), and I would say that we will be in this price range. It will be costly for a game console and extremely cheap when we look at the technologies it will integrate."

      PS3DO!!

It's hard to believe Sony would come in at a price that high.

Just to be objective the article does say it "could" be $600. We still don't know but i'm sure Sony isn't to pleased with the individual who leaked this information whether it's true or not. Anything over $500 will hurt Sony because you have to consider games, sales tax, accessories, extended warranty. It adds up fast and before you know you could be pushing a $1000.

Heck, better now that it's leaked and people could start working those extra hours for this "special system" then to come to the store and then notice that they're 2 bones short of a fun time. I'm laughing cause so many of ya'll in this thread speculate just like those psychic analyst. I'm sure that the system will not be $600, but it ain't going for less than $500, not to forget tax either. This is so funny on the real. I guess I'll be waiting til.........2010+ when it decreases in price and the library is substantially larger. I'm definitely waiting for E3 which couldn't get here sooner. Oh my this is going to be a good one. Definitely looking for some Revolution information now.......

Well, I'll say this, the only extended warranty your going to get from Sony is the one you buy from the store your getting it from, I owned the PS1/Ps2 and sony it self does not offer any extended warranty directly from them, I doubt they will offer any extended warranty ala MS and there extended warranty, Sony has never done this. Thats where they make there money, because after a year of the manufactor warranty your s**t out of luck, Sony will be taking more of your money. This is what I don't like about sony, they should offer an extended warranty like MS does, but I know they won't.

Hopefully there will be online guides on how to fix these next-gen systems soon so that warranties won't exactly be needed if they're not offered in case of the death of the console.

A one year PS3 warranty from Sony would generous if not insane. Only the PSP and Slim PS2's come with a one year warranty because Sony fixed most of the PS2's original problems. And yes I was referring to EBGames, BB and Circuit City warranties.

                  Sony Clarifies PS3 Pricing Comments
The company states that executive's comments were "misunderstood."

April 6, 2006 - Sony stated today that comments regarding the price of the PlayStation 3 made by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) executive Georges Fornay on French radio were "misinterpreted", according to a report at gamesindustry.biz.

Nick Sharples, SCEE corporate communications director, told the industry website that the notion that Fornay's mention of a price range of €499 to €599 for the next-generation console was a "mistranslation or misunderstanding of the discussion, which was actually focused on the relative value of PS3 as a Blu-ray Disc player."

According to Sharples, the pricing discussion on French radio station Europe 1 was intended to focus onthe fact that the PlayStation 3 would be priced "very competitively" when compared to other products that would use the Blu-ray optical technology if it were to be priced at €500, but that this pricepoint would put it "well above the range of other game console products."

Sharples claimed that Fornay was explaining that with both Blu-ray and high-definition functionality, the PS3 would be "cheap" relative to other products that have these features but more expensive when compared to other "current" game consoles which retail at "far below €500."
Sharples stated that any reports that suggest Fornway was providing a specific price point or price range for the PS3 were completely "incorrect."

I dont know, thats alot of money to drop on a console, not including taxes and games and all.

Even though I'll have the money at release, I dont think i'll be buying one, unless its to unload it on ebay

I think you are kidding yourselves if you think price will be even revealed at E3. Isn't TGS in September? That's when you'll hear price.

                        what?

dude I posted a link to an article, what are you talking about?

I doubt the price will be revealed at E3..Sony will probably hold out on that as long as possible.

I still think it'll be pretty high anyhow... hence Kuratagi's "work extra hours" comments earlier on. I just don't see this machine being in the 400 range at all.

Agreed. Comments like these just solidify Sony as a company.

One Europeon exec says this, next day , Sony comes out and tries to clarify what said Euopeon exec says.

How is the public suppose to believe anything that comes out of the Sony camp?

I've been saying that for years, now more and more are picking up on this. Unfortunately most Sony fanboys don't care as long as it carries the Playstation name.

One has to wonder if this marketing ploy will work.

Cheaper than a blue-ray player with HD, but more expensive than a gaming system.
