Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
About The Getaway Demo:
"Straightforward as it may have been, the demo was used to prove a point. Harrison wanted to show the crowd why having the Blu-ray storage format was so important. This simple Getaway scene in particular, was so huge in terms of its data (hundreds of MBs), that without the Blu-ray, building the environment wouldn't be possible. It's an advantage that the 50 Gigs (on a dual-layered BD-ROM) can bring to content developers -- the opportunity to build and stream bigger, more detailed worlds."
I'm not really able to pick apart technical claims like these, but it's something that keeps me really intrigued about the PS3.
What do you guys think? A real advantage for Sony here?Comment

It could come back to be a huge thing for Sony using Blu-Ray and gettin the Extra Room for some games, I dont think itz gonna effect to much but i could see the Right Developers taking Advantage of it and makin somethin Special on the PS3 only basis. Sport games which i play i dont think itz gonna effect much at all, But ya never know.
I love the 360 i have , and as of right now i'll wait till the ps3 comes out and check a friends out to see if i want one..Prob wont get one just b/c allready spent so much on 360 but I definatly think itz gonna give the 360 a fight For Greatness and You never know Could Surpass it....Cant wait to get my hands on it and check it outLet's Get Ready To Rumble!Comment

I don't believe so. The article basically stated that all the demo did was show how you could actually zoom around the London scene in real time.Originally posted by candyman56Is this demo available for viewing?Comment

Sony just lost the appeal.Originally posted by countryboyI thought that was only for the vibration function or what not.
Ok now that I am confused, could you remind me what that lawsuit with Immersion was all about?
They have to pay Immersion $90 million.

That video is from TGS 2005 (September). According to most people that saw the latest demo, it looks better than that now.

Can Sony still sell the PS2, because I read that if they lost the appeal they would not be allowed to sell the PS2 along with the DualShock2 controller.Originally posted by roadmanSony just lost the appeal.

No, the article states at the end that they have to cease selling the PS2 with the DS.
Edit- My bad, here is the second to last paragraph. If they pay the fees, (90 million), they will be able to sell the PS2 with DS.
So this all leaves us with the question, "What does Sony do now?" It's hard to believe that Sony would end up ceasing production of its PS2 or DualShock. The likely outcome is that Sony will be forced to pay the damages and new fees to become one of Immersion's many licensees. This could cost Sony potentially up to $30 million a year alone. Immersion currently has more than 20 gaming companies as licensees.Last edited by roadman; 03-23-2006, 05:00 PM.Comment

My heart just sank. Did M$ buy some of the shares of Immersion? I wonder what patent they exactly have on the controller and what Sony is going to do. That really sucks if they have to pay 30 million a year.Originally posted by roadmanSony just lost the appeal.
