I know this does not make sense from our perspective, but Sony cares about making money. Of course Sony has been vague and they may not be sure themselves.
There is no way this information is true. I'm not in denial, there is just no way. How will you download new content then? It won't fit on the memory card.Xbox 360 GamertagRAW 910

You will be able to download content, but maybe not save games with the HDD.Comment

Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II
One problem with Sony's online service that is "supposedly superior to XBOX LIVE" is if the developers are not getting paid to provide multiplayer online gaming, what is the incentive for the developer to provide a quality service? Would you work hard for your employer if you were not paid? Would you work for free? This is why the PS2 online service is inferior and it does not seem this will change. There is an old saying that you generally get what you pay for and it is usually true in the real world.Comment

PlayStation Network Platform
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaySta...twork_Platform
PlayStation Network Platform is the online service to be provided for use with the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console.
It's currently in development by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Europe with the Sony Online Entertainment. Parts of PNP will incorporate the Central Station (already working in Europe) and a possible integration with Connect.com marketplace.
--Services--
On March 15 at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing, Sony confirmed that they are preparing for an Xbox Live-like online service named PlayStation Network Platform (PNP).
The full list of planned services for the PlayStation Network Platform is as follows.
Communication/Community:
Account created through user registration
Lobbies/Matchmaking
Scores/Ranking
Game data upload/download
Presence/Friend List/Avatar
Voice/Video Chat
Messaging
--Commerce--
Shops (can be accessed from inside games)
Content Download
Game boot from HDD
Subscription
Selling item by item
Micropayment
Entitlement Management
--Account--
User Registration
Login ID/Handlename issue
--Comparison to Xbox Live--
Unlike Xbox Live, a similar service provided for the Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles, the PlayStation Network Platform will allow licensees to connect their own game servers to the network. SCE will provide a common infrastructure for the service, but the PNP will use the standard Internet.
Also unlike Xbox Live, Sony will offer a PNP "basic" service that will be like the Xbox Live Silver service, except it will offer many more features including voice/video chat, messaging, ranking and service updates for games. Where Sony's basic service has a leg up on Xbox Live Silver is the ability for gamers to play multiplayer games online for free, unlike Xbox Live which requires you to pay for a "Gold" subscription card.

It won't be free. Look at what you posted, even in there says it won't be free.
Key words, subscription, micropayment, selling item by item.Comment

Sony- "no fee for playing multiplayer "
Crucially, the basic service will allow users to play games online - a factor which sets it apart from Microsoft's equivalent free service, Xbox Live Silver, which enables community features and content purchases, but doesn't allow users to play multiplayer online games.
I'm sure there will be other packages besides basicComment

Originally posted by ExtremeGamerSo, if there's a pay for play service, what would that entail if you can do everything for free as it is? Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it, I've dealt with Sony's propaganda for years, I still remember when Sony launched the PS2 online, claiming it would have AIM built in amongst other add ons. None of that ever happened.
Alot of people seem to be living in past when it comes to Sony...Times change, companies change, Sony isn't incapable of changing and learning from their mistakes.
I've observed many of the comments on these boards and it seems everyone is holding Sony to their past actions..Which by the way aren't totally their fault; in business companies don't always reach their goals, so why knock Sony for doing what all other companies do?...Also back then Sony had no real incentive to follow through, online gaming wasn't nearly as popular, consoles hard drives etc... were unproven, basically they didn't take a risk.
Up until last week or so, people believed the delays,no hard drive,no online and Sony put all of that to bed...Some think they'll follow through, some think they won't... Sony isn't stupid, by making these announcements they put thier rep on the line, they will follow through.
Anyway companies learn from their mistakes, I'm pretty sure Sony will dilever...I'm no company exec but I'm pretty sure they know whats at stake..Comment

Once E3 hits, and we see an actual PS3, with actual games running, we'll all be able to really know what's going on. Sony is a smart company, they know what's at stake, they are going to keep as much info as they can close to their hip, so I'm curious to what else they have up their sleeve, or have they already thrown down the Ace of Spades?Comment
