Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion discussion Part II
How do you close an Oblivian gate? I have several quests going at the moment, but I am on my way to pick up the son Martin. Does it happen after that. Newbie to the game here so maybe I am missing something. Thanks guys!Comment

Originally posted by HMMurdock311What kind of problems are people having with the leveling system? I actually think it works out pretty good myself.
1. When you level up, many creatures level up with you so that even when you become a high level character, you never really feel like it as all your enemies are also stronger.
2. Not sure on this one as I don't know the ins and outs of the sytem, but you level up too quickly thus you are not able to get many important abilities up enough. You may be level 10, but your skills are still very low so you can't take on the leveled up monsters thus making your character seem even weaker than when he was at a lower level.Comment

Originally posted by mudtigerI too have read quite a bit about from people complaining about the leveling system. Just take a look at the official forums and you'll get your fill. I don't have the game (yet), but essentially the complaint comes down to 2 things:

Also, most monsters only level up to a certain point. You could fight a rat at level one and it will be level one with 4 hit points.. But when you are say level 11, that same rat will only be level one with 4 hit points still.
Though as I understand the creatures are pulled from lists that match with your level.Destiny...is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved -William Jennings BryanComment

Originally posted by HMMurdock311The reason people are leveling up so fast is because most have major skills that don't benefit combat. Things like acrobatics and Atheletics make you level up pretty fast, epecially athletics. Simply walking around will get you levels pretty fast. That is why most people can't keep up with the monsters that level with them.

Exactly. If running and jumping are your majors, you will level faster than everyone else. Also, you're spot on with the monsters. They dont level up, you just face diffrent kinds of the same monster. I saw a diffrent wolf once I got up to level 4. I also ran into a Orgre Captain or something along the lines.
Most be newbs who are complaining because the leveling as well as the monsters are pretty much the same thing as Morrowind.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Roger on the leveling system.
Just a heads up to the pc people, there are already a ton of mods out there. I've got a nice little collection downloaded for when I get the game.

Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion discussion Part II
I think people just need to let their characters mature...I was having a bit of an issue because my stealth and athletics type stuff leveled me up pretty quick, but my attacking wasn't up to snuff. Frustrating at times (the first oblivion gate I just had to run through, couldn't kill things effectively), but once I kept improving my blade and marksman it went away. I originally thought I'd be a more blade primary guy, but my bow's crazy good. A lot of times I can stay in hiding and pick guys off without losing stealth. I also think that the next time I play through (with a mage most likely, a serial killer mage lol) it will be easier because I understand the mechanics more.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Anyone starting a new character or thinking about remaking one should keep these hints about the skills in mind.
Strength - Blunt, Blade, Hand-to-Hand
Intelligence - Alchemy, Conjuration, Mysticism
Willpower - Alteration, Destruction, Restoration
Agility - Block, Marksman, Sneak
Speed - Acrobatics, Athletics, Light Armor
Endurance - Block, Armorer, Heavy Armor
Personality - Mercantile, Illusion, Speechcraft
Acrobatics and Athletics increase your level at a good clip, if you don't want to outlevel your main skills make sure that those two are not one of your major skills. Besides, they level up pretty fast not being a major skill.
Unless you have an affinity for using all the different kinds of weapons you only need one of the weapon skills.
Make sure you get more levels in your what ever skill correlates to the stat you want to raise. Example: If I leveled my Blades 5 times, Block 3 times, and Heavy armor 2 times in one ten level set my stats would be able to be raised in different amounts. My Strength would go up by 5 Agility would go up three and Endurance would go up two. ((If I got this part wrong someone PLEASE correct me =P))
Thats all I have for now as it's time to leave work.Destiny...is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved -William Jennings BryanComment
