Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion

Oblivion is game of the year, hands down, no contest, period. There's not even a game close. It's that good. I'm talking to friends who have never play RPGs and used to watch me and they're playing it and loving it. I've never seen a game which truly anybody can play and love. It's just simply the best there is.

In fact, going forward, this will probably be THE RPG that all RPGs will be based on... not only for the 360 but for the PC.

"but does it have the freedom that Oblivion has?"

"does it have graphics that Oblivion does?"

"does it allow for the overall replay that Oblivion does?"

"does it draw in action, fps, adventure, and RPG gamers like Oblivion does?"

Flat out, this game is in a league by itself.... oh yeah, and it's a SINGLE player game...

Anybody playing the game on the PC with a GeForce 6800. I find it hard to believe the game auto-detected 800x600 for this card.
I also find it hard to believe a graphic designer has a home computer that would autodetect in 800x600. From my experiences with that card (Even the cheapest version of it) I can't see how it would find that resolution. Unless the rest of the CPU specs were pretty dated.

But to keep this on topic, Anyone done any of the daedric quests. They have some of the BEST rewards.

I was level 3. Haven't had much time to play. But after reading this thread and hearing that monster levels go up with you I went back to my exit sewer save and put all the skills that I use the least as my major skills. So even after playing a few more hours I am still level 1.

I think Matthias Worch used to work for ID or something, so i bet he has a pretty big gaming rig. Though this is why I don't do much PC gaming anymore, with all the video card options and whatnot it's a crapshoot a lot of times.

Daedric quests? part of the main quest line or no? I've had some quests have Daedric people that let me loot Daedric hearts, but not sure i've run anything specifically for them.

                Ok here we go.

Garlic: This is easy, you can buy it. Or get some in Weynon Priory, or IMperial Legion Mess hall.

Bloodgrass: Go through an Oblivion gate, there should be plenty of it.

NIghtshade: Walk in the wilderness (this is what I did) between Bravil and Skingrad. It took me about 15 minutes to find some. But when I did it was everywhere. Not that hard to do.

Argonian Blood: This is easy, just slash any Argonian with the dagger she gave you. Just one hit, then run for it.

Vampire Ashes: Also easy cuz you already have the location marked on your map. Just go kill that vampire, bring her the ashes.

That's it! When you're done she'll take 24 hourse to make TWO poitions. Drink one....you're no longer a vampire. Then go back to Skingard and see the count.

                Good luck!

I found some nightshade at one of the alchemy shops, and found some in a room at one of the mage guilds sitting on a table randomly. This was the hardest one to get for me.

I know he's a graphic designer and all....but how can you complain about a opening menu screen? Its pretty much just like Morrowind. As for the graphics and textures, they must have something good going on at Factor 5 because I have no complaints about the graphics. The textures look great, especially compared to a XBOX game. The pop-in is one distraction but damn, give Bethseda a break. As huge as this game is, I'd like to see some other company take up a game of this size and be able to produce perfect 10 graphics. Oblivions graphics are the best I've seen so far.

You guys should check out Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Its basically Arx Fatalis 2 mixed with Heros of Might and Magic. Its as closet to Morrowind and Oblivion as any developer will get.

Yea, the multiple card options available make his claim odd to me. I mean there are like three or four options of the 6800, no teling which he is using.

I actually meant Daedric Shrine quests. Out in the wilderness there are shrines to the Daedric Gods where people worship them. If you are the proper level and have get the correct item for it the statue will give you a quest.

As I don't want to ruin the Thieve's Guild Questline (It's my Favorite so far) for anyone, highlight the area between the Spoilers for a quest and item you get as example..

I did a quest for the Daedric God Nocturnal (Same god the Grey Fox mask was stolen from) and got a nice unbreakable lockpick that adds 40 to my security skill.

I was reading about that game in my last CGM i think. Looks and sounds incredible. Unfortunatly my current game machine won't be up to par for that.

As to Oblivion being the RPG all others are compared to, I think that will be the case for the 360. PC Games move at such an alarming rate it won't take long for someone to copy the formula and make it better.

Tromped through the main quest, the fighter's guild, and the arena so far. Now running the Dark Brotherhood and Thieve's Guild, as well as playing the entire game as a full vampire (that's a tough one so far).

Forget game of the year for me, game of my life. It's just amazing, best experience I've ever had. A week straight, every waking hour...and I mean EVERY waking hour, it's kind of freakish actually. The differences between my hybrid fighter and a straight thief are staggering. After logging 30-something hours with a fighter class, going Sam Fisher on the Goblins is a definite gear change.
