Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
You know Extreme I don't either. I think my point was that EGM's scores typically always suck now.
As for what's coming out about this game...
The majoity of "Next Gen" games have been a visual eye candy. Then the gameplay has been subpar. You have a few exceptions out there, but in general there's not as many AAA quality games out like there was on a consistant level for the PS2 and XBox 1.
The 360 is MIGHTY CLOSE to doing that, but not yet.... This fall though. That's a totally different story.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
My friend, I'm not sold on the SUXAXIS (term coined by Rodster). Like EG said about SUXAXIS, it's like those kids that you see playing a game and their moving with the damn controller because their so out of control. To me this is not gaming, but who knows.Comment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
Sixaxis control on Motorstorm is sweet when you can regularly wrangle at least two classes of vehicles.
As long as a Sensitivity slider is added, I think everybody should find a decent setting for games like Warhawk & Lair.
What's funny is how a seemingly casual gamer geared feature like Sixaxis control is a bitch to master.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
I'm reading over at another message board where some guy picked it up and he said after a few hours worth of gameplay, he dislikes the suxaxis controls.....it really takes away from the fun. Hopefully Slayer or one of the other guys that said were going to pick this up will chime in soon.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 08-30-2007, 06:25 PM.Comment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
Impressions from a dude on IGN, this game sounds good:
Ok I just beat the first level. Impressions:
It was extremely hetic. There is TONS going on. It's really overwhelming. You really feel like an ant in battle b/c there are so many other dragons and the the world is so big. The water effects are AWESOME. I blew up a ship at low level and a wave of water went over my head. I almost shat myself.
The fire breathing is made very easy. Just press square and bam you got yourself a fire ball. You can also kinda "charge up" a bigger fireball is you are flying full speed and pelt one out. I havent confirmed this yet though but I know you can do it.
Finding your bearing is kinda of difficult. You have an arrow at the top right of the screen which is suppose to tell you where to go but it moves really weird in relation to how you move. I dunno if I'm looking at it wrong or thinking about it wrong but if the arrow is pointing up and to the right I think I need to turn to my right and fly up to get my bearings. But it doesn't quite work like that for some reason. Hopefully I figure it out as I play more.
Taking out other dragons with fire balls is really easy and fun. They squeal and scream all differently. The dragon has this badass "dragon vision" where it kinda hones in on what's goin on and it kinda helps focus your attention a bit. THe dragon on dragon combat though is kinda hard. I think it's b/c you use the sixaxis for it. I'm not used to using motion controls for a tackle, I'm used to pressing the button. But I think this is one of the things that will become easy with time.
Lastly it seems there are a SLEW of tutorials you can do to fine tune your skills. The game offers an initial tutorial for flight controls but after you beat the first level you are privy to a bunch of tutorials like combat courses, basic air combat and a bunch of other stuff. And it's all optional, you don't have to do it.
Ok that's all for now. ANyone else that has the game post your impressions too.
EDIT: HOLY CRAP I just did the flight combat tutorial and it was fun as crap! The dragon on dragon combat was a lot of fun. When you want to enter melee combat with another dragon just hold L1 to lock onto him then circle to ram into him then hit triangle and start the battle. You have a decent amount of options while fighting too. You can block, claw, bite, flame etc. At first I got owned and was set ablaze but the second time I did it it was fun. You really felt powerful as you clawed and burned the other dragon. The sound effects work well with this.
THe motion controls are great. They really dont take away from the experience nor are they problematic. However this only applies to flight. The flight is very good with motion control. But the mid air side to side, "dragon raming" doesn't work as well IMO. I would just rather press the shoulder buttons to ram other dragons. But the flight is great and since thats what you do most of the time it's a great thing.
Edit:
It also appears you can go back and replay any mission you have completed. You can also skip cutscenes and narration.
OMG I'm on the second level and I got to do some ground combat and it's HELLA FUN!! I wasn't expecting this. You TRULY feel like a huge *** dragon against the soldiers. You can burn them all, claw them, hit them with your tail, eat them. Oh man the sound effetcs are great it adds a lot.
EDIT:
Oh yeah you use the analogs when you are on the ground which is really nice. The left controls movement and the right controls the camera. I was worried that ground combat would be a problem but you have total 360 degree control over the camera when you are on the ground so you can angle it however you want, thus, making ground combat non-problematic at least as of now. As I said above, owning humans is fun. And the slow mo when you do a cool move is a nice touch.Comment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
Whats that, the impressions that I posted? Its from one of the regulars on IGN that posts there all the time, so its real.
I buckled, I went and picked this up. I haven't played a game on the PS3 in sometime except for BluRay movies, that I'm finally updating to 1.90 today.Comment

Re: New Lair Screenshot. WOW.
Lair Review = 4.9
Look, up in the sky -- it's a Sixaxis suckfest!
Closing Comments
You might think I'm being too hard on Lair, but if you do, you clearly haven't played this game. Although there are levels where wide-open environments and spread-out objectives trick you into thinking the Sixaxis stuff isn't that bad, whenever a handful of enemies are on screen, your flight space becomes limited or you need to be precise, this game falls apart.
At one point, Lair looked like one of the most promising titles coming to the PS3, but the final version -- even with its interesting story, occasionally impressive graphics and amazing score -- falls well short of anything you should be playing.
IGN Ratings for Lair (PS3)
Presentation
From the opening movie to the dragon-flying-over-a-map chapter select screen, Lair has you engrossed in its medieval feel, which an interesting story and quality VO perpetuates.
7.5 Graphics
It's the definition of a mixed bag. The FMVs look awesome; the in-game stuff looks great but chugs; and the custscenes using in-game assets look framey.
8.0 Sound
There's a sweeping score that really captures the moment and some quality voice work, but there are moments when you'll be attacking a catapult and it seems like a sound effect is missing.
4.5 Gameplay
A bus-like feel and Sixaxis controls kill this game. In wide-open areas, it's okay, but the moment you need precision, you realize you’re screwed -- you can't corner, target or fight well.
5.5 Lasting Appeal
There are leaderboards to track, medals to earn and movies to unlock, but the frustrating control scheme will probably stop you from coming back for more.

Well, I'm going to fire this up in a few minutes. If it really sucks, it goes up on ebay. One good thing is that only EB/Gamestop has it out early by 4-5 days, someone may see it on ebay a few days before original 9/5 street date so it may sell faster using Buy In Now.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 08-30-2007, 08:51 PM.Comment
