I hardly even notice it on the 360 controller, but again, after reading this I did. Is it a big omission, yeah, probably since every controller has had it since the N64, but will it be a non-buying point for anyone? I highly doubt it.

Like me. I was a sucker for the rumbling. It is'nt exactly the end all but I will definitely miss it. If I was to buy a PS3. Nothing beats games where your heart rate speeds up in crucial situations. It makes you realize how important that moment may be. As well as my beloved FPS which respond to bullets hitting you or explosions in your range. man i cant believe how much all this is gonna cost in the long run. i should just buy the 60in sony sxrd (1080p) now to get ready for my ps3 and play it in all its glory lol
so i guess it will cost me around 5400.00 bucks for a ps3.....Twitch

Originally posted by spankdatazz22I agree MS doesn't have anything close to the 1st/3rd party support the PS3 has going for it; they really need to address that situation. But for the price the PS3 is going for, I don't think they showed games that justify the costs. If I'm a tech-head with a $4k HDTV and a $800 surround sound system then the PS3 is reasonably priced; perhaps even a bargain. But most people don't have anywhere near that setup, and likely won't for years to come (many years). I'm not THAT hyped to play MGS4 or FF13. It'll be interesting to see if this drives more 3rd party devs to the 360.
As far as the lack of a rumble feature goes, I think it'll be big. Hideo Kojima has always done something special with the rumble and integrated it into MGS; I'm sure he could do the same with the tilt technology. But I think the feeling you get from force feedback is a little more viceral than what you would get from the PS3's tilt controller. You think of playing Madden, and you feel the rumble when you make a hit - when it's toggled off it's pretty noticeable. My School's National Championships:

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
hands on with new PS3 controller
the rumble was removed due to it interfering with the motion sensor of the controller (although probably has something to do with the lawsuit).
The new motion sensor of the controller allows you to tilt the controller for effect in the game. Things like flying an airplane by tilting your controller up/down, etc. Steering a car by tilting/turning the controller. Juke in a football game by "juking" the controler. Bob/weave/duck in boxing by bobbing & weaving the controller.
Those are all just ideas that are possible (not necessarily being implemented) but the plane idea will be at launch with Warhawk... gameplay using the new controller to fly it was shown at hte Sony press conference.Comment

I'm the same way, I use the Wavebird exclusively with my Gamecube and I didn't even notice it didn't have a rumble feature for the longest time.
The rumble feature can add to a game. The best example of it being useful to me is in baseball titles where if you don't use a pitch cursor (in head to head games with a buddy) the controller vibrates when you move the invisible cursor to the edge of the strike zone. Can I live without that feature? Absolutely. Will it be missed? Of course. Is it a system seller to have rumble? No, of course not, that seems silly to me. I'm at least left curious about the motion sensors in the new one and early impressions are that it works great with Warhawk. I don't think its as cool a feature as Sony wants us to think, but I think it can potentially offer gamers much more than what a rumble feature does.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
I posted this in the other PS3 Info thread but I'll post it here as well. Remember that the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 is only 2x, 72mbps, which is about 9MBps. That makes the 12X DvD in the 360 faster. Which I would assume slower load times on the ps3? Can this be correct? WTH Sony.Comment

I wish sony would of changed their controllers to be more effective with FPS games. I do not like sony's layout. The 2 thumsticks are still too close to each other and i like having the trigger underneath like the microsoft controller.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
Does the 360 controller even have rumble? I was talking to some friends today who have 360s and play them regularly, none of them were even sure if it had rumble and one of them said that it doesn't. So is it really that big of a feature? Most of you probably wouldn't even notice if it didn't have it without being told.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
The biggest problem with the PS3 is..."what makes it different than the 360." Yeah the games look sharp but Bungie has recently stated that the Halo Trailer is pretty much what the graphics will look like in real-time.
Also for that person that said this should be no problem for the grown-up crowd...I disagree. I think it is a bigger problem for the 30+ yr old gamers.
I mean, I am not of that age and do not have the reponsibility yet, but that $750+ (yup including everything you have to buy on the first day.) could go a long way in...
