According to my local Wal-Mart electronics manager, there doesn't seem to be much interest in the Wii in my area as most of the calls he's had have been asking about the PS3. He still doesn't know quite what to expect, but little interest is a good thing for me.

Anyway, Zelda is up on Amazon for preorder. They offer free S&H and no tax, unless you're in WA.

I'm curious. For those that get a preorder online, are you going to wait or will you try to get one on launch anyway?

I think that I'm going to attempt the store. With pre-orders online, it might be really hard to get on there in time to order one.

1op.com just confirmed that Walmart will sell the systems at 12:01 midnight. My boys @ EB said I'll definately get one even though I didn't preorder one so I'll have to wait in line if I want one.

Right now i'm leaning on going to Walmart @ midnight.

Yeah, their was never any doubt that Wal-Mart wouldn't sell them at 12:00 on the 19th. I talked to the employee in Wal-Mart tonight, and he said they wouldn't be doing vouchers, that it'd be first come first serve on the 19th.

Holic, I think that stores like Best Buy and Walmart will have plenty of Wii on the day of launch, but if you don't go within a few hours of open they will be gone.

I'm looking at this from the viewpoint that 2 days earlier there will be 400,000 people buying the PS3. Some of them will sell the PS3, while the rest will keep it to play. I see maybe 1% of these people buying a Wii since they may have money for both.

Those that don't get the PS3, may go the 360 route or hold off till more PS3's come out. There will be a small percentage going w/ the Wii again.

I see more 360 owners and Moms/Dads buying the Wii. With 1 million availabe at launch, we should be able to get one if you go early enough to the store when it opens.

I just wish someone would release allocation #'s like we had for the 360 last year.

Are we looking than at Sunday, Midnight 12:01 for the systems to be available at Walmart? This might not be a bad option.

Yep, be there late Saturday night, and they're selling at 12:00 per my local Wal-Mart. It's a Super Center so they're open 24 hours, no need to wait in the cold.

I'm trying to decide what time to hit my local Wal-Mart. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take that Saturday off. I figured I'd call at noon and see how many people were lined up and call every half hour or every hour after that. But like Candy is saying, I think whoever wants a Wii on launch can get one so long as they hit the stores right at opening.

As for the online preorders, I'm going to try my damnedest to get one online, just as a safety net, but even with these "e-mail me" things, you'll never get the e-mail in time to actually order one.

I almost feel like there will be enough consoles if you get there early enough. The Gamecube had 700,000 at launch. I walked right into Best Buy an hour after they opened and walked right out with one. With an extra 300K this season, it might not be too hard to get one by getting there at open or an hour or two before.

I don't remember the GC launch, but I would think there is a lot more hype over the Wii than the GC had. I mean, the Wii is on almost every official "holiday hot list," which scares me.

You do make a very good point, the Gamecube wasn't as hyped as the Wii. Also the Cube was only competing against the newly released XBOX at the time, while the PS2 had been out a year already.

Now the Wii is competing against the PS3 this holiday season and the 360 will be out for a year. I guess I'm trying to stay optimistic about getting a Wii on launch day.
