Gears of War trilogy confirmed?
...
Mark Rein comments on the Gears forum.
Gears is a trilogy? If we can keep making quality games that fans obviously love (see big announcement coming shortly) then why would we have to stop at three? I don't see the Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy series (among others) stopping at three and they're still delivering compelling entertainment content that's easily worth the money (see Unreal Tournament as well). There's definitely, as many of you have pointed out, a lot more to learn about what's really happening on the planet Sera and in the lives of the members of Delta Squad.
In the mean time we're working hard to support Gears of War (the first one) and come up with some great enhancements you'll hopefully see before too long. We're not ready to provide any details yet but I assure you we're on the job.
You never know how well your game is going to be received by the fans and media until it actually goes on sale and reviewers actually get their hand on a finished product. With the kind of hype Gears had going into launch there is always a huge risk of backlash if you don't deliver. We (Epic) tried very hard not to fuel the hype. Hype is created and perpetuated by extreme fan and media interest which was created by great showings of the game in the past. I think we did a commendable job keeping information about the single player game out of the limelight so as not to pour gasoline on the flames already burning. We could have released a lot more information and content than we did but we held back trying to make sure there were things you didn't know about before the game shipped. So if Gears had flopped there wouldn't be a Gears 2 so we don't feel there is a need to commit to more titles before we know how the last one did. But we've always said this game is part of a bigger story and if this one did well then the story would unfold in another one. Let's wait and see how the next one does before we start predicting third please! In the mean time there are still more things we want to do with this game so stay tuned!

Not even that, now Microsoft has 2 behemoths to fall on. Halo will continue in various different forms, but now MS finally has 2 exclusive titles that can be classified as killer apps/system sellers.Comment

I might be late to the party but, the commercial for Gears of War is incredible. The music, funny enough, fits the video perfectly. Easily the best video game commercial I've ever seen."Your character is who you really are, your reputation is what you're perceived to be by others" - John Wooden(former UCLA head coach)Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
Q4 (Oct-Dec) of 2007 is a year from now, not a couple of months. If it comes out in Q3, that would be anywhere from July 2007 to September 2007, which comes out to 7-9 months from now. The multi player beta I know nothing about, but that's not the release of the actual game.Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
But to be out before Halo 3 it likely would have to come out in the next 6-11 months...which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, since GoW it just came out a couple of weeks ago...you could see an expansion via Live Marketplace (a la GRAW) sometime soon, but you won't see a full-fledged GoW2 until at least Q3 2008 at the earliest if I had to guess. I don't want to get in an argument about this though, so I'll keep my mouth shut on the subject from here on out...
BTW, if you haven't seen it, here is the link to the announcement about the FREE Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta that is being released to the public in in the Spring, and the new maps that are coming out for Halo 2 about the same time: LINKLast edited by jdros13; 11-22-2006, 12:28 PM.Comment

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread
One thing Epic really needs to improve upon for the sequel is the AI of Dominic and the rest of your team. I'm playing on hardcore now(already beat casual) and IMO Dominic can't get out of his own way. He dies an awful lot and bumrushes enemies/bosses way too much instead of taking cover. He's a constant liability and it's hard to focus in a firefight because I have to babysit him so much. Just my opinion of course. How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.Comment
