Re: PS3 fans lashing out at all PS3 auctions!
Its backfiring because people are doing something thats borderline illegal, or should be, not because of the market. If the ps3's started to sell for $600 on the bay and you wanna laugh at the people that waited in line just to sell one, thats fine, but laughing because of whats happening at the moment, is rediculous. People are acting like childeren trying to ruin someone elses sale. I just dont get it.Comment

Re: PS3 fans lashing out at all PS3 auctions!
Again, nothing hilarious about this. The people that got one have the right to do whatever they want with it. They can play it, sell it, or through it off the roof of a building. Ebay is an established marketplace, and should be treated as such. If someone has something to sell, that should be a safe place to sell it. There isnt really much sellers can do to keep people from jacking their auctions. They can monitor the auction 24 hours a day and reject rediculous bids, but that does nothing to stop the snipers in the last seconds of the auction.
Many people use ebay as their primary store front to provide them with a place to make a living. My mom does this selling antiques. I've done it in the past with sportscards. I hope ebay can punish those that place fake bids, monitarily. Ebays store front is no different than a brick and mortar store front IMO. How would you like it if someone messed with your business like this? Probably wouldnt be well received by many.
To those that find it funny or think its OK for this to happen because of greed or it being OK to hate on a person trying to make some extra cash, that speaks of your ethics and morality. Your being little and jealous.
Bottom line. These consoles, whether sold in a store through a preorder, by waiting in line, or on ebay are eventually going to people who want them and have put a price on them. Some were willing to pay more than others, and its really rather simple.
Your absolutely right, people who were able to get one last night/this morning have the right to do whatever they want with it. At the same time, there are ways to avoid what is happening, which leads me to feel no sympathy whatsoever for the people it is happenening to. They could list them as buy-it-now auctions with immediate paypal requirement. Or they could just do it the smart way and avoid eBay altogether and put it on Craigslist, while avoiding any fees and an auction all at the same time.
For you to compare this with people messing with mine or someone else's business is just off. I sell stuff on eBay too. It's not like you see this happening with anything else on eBay, it's only the PS3, and only due to the fact that this isn't like the 360 craze was on eBay last holiday season. The majority of folks actually wanted the 360 last year and i'd say the majority of people who waited in line for a PS3 did it to turn a profit.
Yeah, I think it's hilarious, yet this speaks on my ethical reasoning and morality? It's even more funny for you to say that. Sure I wish I would of pre-ordered to make some extra cash but I didn't and I could care less.

eBay should hold those that place a bid accountable, and make retractions impossible. If people knew there were serious consequences for their bids, they might be hesistant to play around with an otherwise serious auction.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

eBay can't do anything about it, unless they want to start blocking IP addresseses. Most of the bids that are ruining the auctions are from freshly created accounts, which could easily be registered under John Doe.

I know when I registered I had to give a CC number, is this not the case anymore? If not thats to bad, as ebay could just charge their CC.Comment

If they don't require new users to validate a checking/credit account, then I suppose they are partly to blame for it being so easy to create bogus names just to mess up the auctions of others.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

Ebay sellers will provide insurance but UPS, Fed-Ex, DHL etc will throw those boxes around like crazy.Comment

Re: PS3 fans lashing out at all PS3 auctions!
They should require all accounts to be attached to a checking/credit account (I thought they already required this), and block those accounts that take part in such practices; or hold them accountable for their winning bids.

You only have to put actual information through eBay if you want to sell. If just buying things you can have false information across the board I believe.

Well yes, but I mean should eBay have to change their policy all because of the sale of one item that is getting pretty nutty. I think they make it so easy so that in the normal case of a regular person they can have easy access to eBay itself and not have to hassel with putting credit card numbers and bank accounts on file unless they want to sell.

Re: PS3 fans lashing out at all PS3 auctions!
i just cant ever see myself doing this for money.. i can be homeless and hating on the world around me, but standing in line to resell even if everyone else is doing is, is not a step Id want to take in my life.
greed for the sake of money.. what if there was a milk shortage and you didnt drink milk.. you see the milk man deliver goods to a store and you know ahead of time there is a shortage and demand will sky rocket. do you buy the milk or go about your life like a normal person.
if anything i'd buy a supply to sell to peoeple who really want it for its intended purpose and sell at "retail".
you take the good with the bad here. you know the system is highly sought after, so youll have to deal with the haters for now. im sure they wont be too sad knowing they made 1000 bucks with minimal intellecitual effortComment
