-Playing Tecmo Super Bowl with a buddy of mine in high school. We put about $20 on the game (which we played all of the time). I was the Raiders (Bo!!) and he was the 49ers. We went back and forth the whole game. I thought I had the thing won when I forced a 4th and 32 with about a minute left to play. He was down by 2 points, and I thought for sure he was going to go for a bomb to Jerry Rice. Instead, he attempted, and made, a 60+ yard field goal to go up by one. On the ensuing kick-off, which I had Bo Jackson returning, I zig-zagged my way down the field as time expired. I got to, no lie, the 1 yard line when one of his guys dove and tackled Bo. I was livid.

-My Junior year of high school was pretty tough (by high school standards). Around homecoming time I was dumped by my girlfriend shortly after I tore my ACL, prematurely ending my football career. Obviously, I was pretty bummed while at the same time being immobile. My parents, seeing my impending depression, picked up Tecmo Super Bowl III for the SNES for me. For those of you that haven't played, Tecmo III was the first football game to have a free agency system and continuous seasons. I was the season that Deion was a free agent going into the season (before he signed with the 49ers). I had so much fun putting him on the Skins and playing season after season with that game. I ended up getting my revenge on the girl who dumped my handicapped *** -- I married her sister.

-Beating X-Men the Arcade Game at the mall on my 13th birthday with a friend of mine and a bunch of guys I have never met. I believe we spent about $30, but it was worth every quarter.

-Calling my mom at home my freshman year of college to read to me and my roomie some tips out of my gaming magazine on how to beat Resident Evil.

-Setting up proximity mines in Goldeneye and then luring people to their untimely doom.

Hearing Ludacris rap on Madden 2000 I think it was. "Maaaaan, get out my way and watch out as I come THROUGH!" That intro used to get me so hyped to play because of the NFL video playing along and every line of the song ended with a nasty hit.

That was a great intro. Even my dad, who was in his upper 40's at the time, loved that intro.
Another great memory was seeing Killer Instinct for the first time in the arcade.

Running with Bo on Tecmo Bowl.

Lakers Vs Celtics on Christmas morning playing on the mega drive(genesis)

Playing through every Metal Gear game.

1st time I played NFL 2K and NBA 2K on the dreamcast.

1st time playing NFL 2K5 on Xbox.

Playing NBA 2K7 for the 1st time after playing the demo 80000000000000 times.

Just too many great memories from videogames to even list. God bless the digital crack.

Dang, TROB, those bring back some serious memories. Remember Magics no-look in Bull vs Lakers? Or how the back of the box had a real pic of Chawles doing his Gorilla slam? Or trying to find MJ's sweet spot for his up and under in Bull/Blazers...

Oh hell yes. There was also this other basketball game that I can't remember the name of right now. I remember the Charlotte hornets were RIGHT in that game. It was nothing but dunks with Kendall Gill and threes with Dell Curry all day long! It had cut scenes of dunks too.

Getting laid multiple times in the game.

Actually, they just showed the silhouette of your guy going to the girl as the hotel lights went down and all of your health regenerated but when you're 12 and playing your NES, it really didn't get any better.

Am I the only one who played that game?

I also remember beating Raiders of the Lost Ark for the Atari 2600 after sending away for what I can only imagine was the first "official game guide" ever made for a console game and watching the ending feeling ridiculously ripped off. First disappointing ending of many but memorable none the less...

I had it when I was around 9, it was great! I could basically turn the game off after that cause when it got to those maze levels I was clueless.

Playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time. Man, wow, the fight with Psycho Mantis was worth the price alone.

Playing MGS: Sons of Liberty for the first time. Man, wow, the part where you have to snipe those robots to keep Otacon's sister alive was worth the price alone.


Play MGS: Snake Eater for the first time. Man, wow, the fight with The End was worth the price alone. The ending of that game was sogood, I played through about 10 times just to watch it over and over.


Aeris dying in FFVII. Threw my whole party out of wack.

When I first broke the backboard using Hakeem Olajuwon on NBA Showdown 94'.

Seeing Tom Chamber's double pump dunk from the three point line for the first time on Lakers vs Celtics. The first time I saw all of the stars' moves in that game was a jaw dropping moment for me.


First time I saw the grey dude dunk animation in Double Dribble, and my first 720 fade-away three point shot.

Being awed at how realistic the graphics were in Madden 92.

Good list. Most of the "most memorable" moments here are sports related... go figure.

But yes, a lot of them came with the PS. But ChronoTrigger... and finding out you could fight the end boss so early if you chose to... I loved it! Great game design!

Actually, I don't quite recall - could you go to the day of Lavos through that Leene Square telepod on your first playthrough? I thought that was only after a New Game+.

But then there's also the End Of Time, which isn't that deep into the game, from which I know you can head to your doom - er, I mean 1999 AD, on the first game.

Madden 93, capping a 35 point 2nd half comeback with a 103 yds Int return for a TD with Rod Woodson of the then Steelers, over my neighbor and the Broncos.

Also, renting Tecmo Bowl for the first time to find out it had real players and teams from the NFL. Football gaming changed with that game for sure.

Nope, you sure aren't. I remember that scene very well. Me and a friend used to talk about it all the time when we found out the we each had played it back in the day.

He's the same friend who was playing Madden 05 with the Eagles. I don't remember who he was playing, but it doesn't matter. He was a few beers into the game and on his opponent's 20 yard line. On a simple sweep to the left with Brian Westbrook and enough open field to crash land a space shuttle, he turns to me with no expression on his face and simply stated "GONE" when he reached the 5-yard line. I couldn't hold my laughter in when he dove to the ground at about the 1/2-yard line thinking he would make it in for the TD. HAHA, the ensuing laughter made my stomach ache for days.

when soap died, he survived so much in the other 2 games, so even after the fall i was pretty confident he would live but then out of nowhere i had to break my controller.

my best moment even though it wasnt a moment: playing in MW3 domination and no one is after the objective, the whole team was on B and the whole other was on C so i would go to alpha so it was impossible to take one of those but i would almost be met by another guy and we had a great one on one, i would die and comeback and kill him he comes back i kill him again, then someone calls a chopper and i die several times from it and then we resumed our one on one for the rest of the match.it was just really fun.

The Eternal Darkness mentions from yesteryear are still applicable for me, that game had some great moments in it.

My all time most memorable gaming moment was my first run up Highpass from the Karanas side in Everquest. There was something just so epic about that; it really gave you a sense of how huge that world was. The Plane of Knowledge in the later expansions ruined a big part of the EQ experience IMO, the exploration and the simple sense of achievement of just getting somewhere.

1. Metal Gear Solid when Snake has the Codec convo with Otacon and you discover that the freight elevator has 4 dudes wearing invisible camo ready to fight you. I almost peed myself.

2. Mass Effect 2 when you are preparing for the Collectors base assault. The music as you pick who does what and give an epic speech gave me goosebumps. I remember the job of going through the shaft sounded scary as hell so I picked Legion (geths have no fear). The way he looked at Shepard and said "Acknowledged" gives me chills just thinking about it.

3. In Red Dead Redemption when Marsden dies. The whole build up you think he is going to make it (since he is the main character in a sandbox game). I remember my shock as they lit him up and he crumpled to the ground dead. But the last mission as his son is truly awesome.
