Whichever Metal Gear it was where you faced off against Mantis, and he did all the crazy things that made you think your console was broken.

Agreed on the Palom and Porom from FF. To this day that is still my favorite game of all time due to the story.

Beating Ninja Gaiden...the orignal on the NES.
That game was murder.

That one just came to mind first. What a ride. And you had to play it in one sit down because there was no saving in that game....at all. Die and you start at the beginning of the level you died on. You only had 3 lives.

I remember looking for the Metal Gear Solid 1 strategy guide in stores that is how annoyed Mantis got me. When I went to one store, the worker laughed and just said just switch the controller to the 2nd player.

Mantis idea was the best idea ever. Surprised no other game tried that. I loved the fact he read your memory card and named all the things you had on there.

Metal Gear Solid 1 hands down. I'll never forget getting that game for Christmas, and watching the opening scene of that game. The way the credits rolled as you played was so cool to me at the time. I remember after getting out of the water and up the elevator, you went outside into the snow. And it was snowing that Christmas. That entire game brings back fond memories. I wish they would update it with HD graphics.

Most memorable? Probably stepping out of the Vault into the wasteland for the first time in Fallout 3. My mind was blown. I guess it kind of goes for all of Bethesda's games. I had the same sense of awe when I got my first taste of freedom in both Oblivion and Skyrim as well.

Another was the ending of Halo: Reach. After the ship takes off and you are left on Reach alone, and then the ensuing fight for your life. Something about it was just so epic to me. Probably doesn't hurt that every Halo game has absolutely incredible music.

Metal Gear Solid is one of my top 5 games of all time. A ground breaking game and one for the ages.

I too hope and pray for the HD treatment.

Some moments that stand out:

1) Reaching the end of Majora's Mask, that area with the giant tree. I remember being speechless at the time

2) My first play through of Journey, assisted with a fellow stranger and building a bond with that person without speaking a word. Simply amazing.

3) Returning to Shadow Moses Island in MGS4 and having the end theme from the original just kick in. Jaw on the floor!

4) Arriving at Anor Londo for the first time in Dark Souls. Again, speechless.

I have a list full of them from an old open world PVP MMO I played called Shadowbane. Two of the more memorable ones:

1. There were certain points of interest around the map that if you controlled your guild earned extra money. There was a 2 hour window every day in which one of these points would be open for someone else to come and take away from you if they could. Well a rival guild tried to do just that. It was approximately 10v25 (us being the smaller) and the initial skirmish it was 2 v 18 with just me and 1 other left. My teammate was nearly dead though so he had to hide for a minute to heal up. Fortunately for me I was on a high defense character which in this game was the equivalent of evasion. So the 18 of them continued to attack me, but they were only landing a handfull of hits and I was able to heal most of the damage I took. My group mate eventually recovered and his character had a lot of attack power from range and so he started picking them off one by one while they continued to focus fire me and I kept stuns up on their healers and mana drains so they were left useless. The fight probably lasted 6 or 7 minutes with just the 2 of us vs them and eventually we came out on top. They did not try a second time against us that night.

2. The main focus of the game was guild vs guild warfare with player built cities that could be sieged and destroyed (called banes). An alliance of guilds that I belonged to "baned" a rival alliance's city. When the bane went live there were over 200 people on each side with maxed out characters. Defenders reigning down spells from the top of walls while we were on the ground trying to pick them off and blasting their walls with catapults. The fight lasted for hours. They would form up and come down from the wall and try to roll us, but we would hang on either winning the skirmishing or falling back a bit to regroup. This pattern went on and on until finally we breached their outer walls and they were forced back inside their inner walls. The previous pattern started to repeat, but the defending alliance called on more allies which forced us to fall back (the political system in that game was similar to World War 1 with guilds forming alliance after alliance with others). There was a stalemate for a while until finally our siege weapons knocked down another opening and we stormed inside the last defenses of the castle killing everyone and taking the city. We started "bane prep" just outside their city about an hour before it went live (around 8pm) and it was not over until about 3am. It was a non-stop adrenaline rush that I will never forget. It really sucked for everyone who did not belong to any of the fighting though. People around the sever map experienced severe lag as more than half the server was engaged in an all out war of spamming skills and powers.
