I pretty much suck. I played 15 games just now with 4 players, I only won once. Usually I was 3rd or 4th. One of my problems was self-destructions (especially when I tried Fox and Yoshi) with quick moves. I also really never even tried to block moves, which I need to start to do. Its just so quick, i forget about the shield button.

So how do we actually open up new characters? I can't seem to figure it out. I played the regular challenge mode, beat the weird hand thing, and then I fought a different character (can't remember who) but I lost- would I have had to beat him to open him up?
Yeah, as far as I know you have to beat that guy. I've lost a few times and he's still there the next time you get through. I finally beat him (and then the next guy), so I think it keeps going until they're unlocked.

The first 3(or 2?) times you beat the hand on Classic mode a new character will appear afterwards, beat that character and you unlock them. After those initial few, a new character won't appear everytime you beat Classic. I'm not sure how it works after that, but after that first few times I beat it twice without getting a new character, then on the third time one did show up.

Not sure exactly how it works, but the easiest way I've found to unlock them is to keep beating classic mode with different characters.

There are different ways to unlock characters. If you finish the 1 player adventure mode you will unlock all expect for three of them. You could also just play vs mode and you will unlock a character after so many matches. If you do it the vs way then you will have to play 450 matches to unlock all the characters.

As for Master Hand being a bizarre choice for a boss... in the first game, it showed that all of the characters are really trophies or action figures, and the Hand arranges them and starts the battle. So they're really fighting in order to take out the Hand who is controlling them.

Yeah, I'm playing through the 1 player adventure mode now, i think that'll be quicker to unlock a lot earlier on, plus it's actually kinda fun/different.

I looked for you guys online tonight, but it was pretty dead, oh well. I played a little more adventure mode and played through a classic solo battle. i kinda like the story mode this year, it still hasn't gotten boring yet to me.

What's your name show up as online? If you didn't change it, it might be some random name(I assigned everybody random names when I entered their codes).

I played for about an hour and a half last night from 7:30 - 9:00 and I checked my friends list every 10 minutes or so and nobody from OS was signed in.

On the plus side, I played random matches online twice and was able to join the first time, no errors.

If anybody was considering attempting the Events thing to unlock content, there is very limited reward for beating all 20 on Normal, the best thing I got was a gimmick-y new stage.

I just put in your code last night before I fired up the game, so our codes weren't synced up yet, it was probably around 10:30 central time last night when I was on. My name is KEV when online in SSBB. Yeah the good thing about this game online is that randoms are still fun games to play.

I think that's one of the issues, the Wii screen name is different so I can't tell who I really have on my list. I know I've got CM on my list, I think ESPNDeportes as well, aukevin I've put your code in but it say "Awaiting Registration" right now. My Smash Screen Name is JRog

I just put your code in last night as well, so maybe it will be registered next time you try the game.

It will only say your friends are online if their ACTUALLY playing people online(i.e. Brawling against friends or Anyone)... If their playing by themselves, they won't show up as online...the best option I can come up with to get more people online, is if one person sends a message to everyone...and whoever is online can then put SSBB in and hop online....

But then you would have to add everyone to your friends list as well......... I'm not sure how many of yall have added me,if any, but I would love to record some of our matches... I have recorded 2 matches i've played against my best friend, and I'm willing to record and post more, win or lose.... if any of yall are down, send me a PM this way I can know to add you guys...

Here is the matches... this is NOT a skill showcase! I'm just having fun, recording matches.... In the video, you can kinda see where it lagged heavily at too.... so if you see me and him swinging at nothing, it's cause of that....

So I'm assuming the game tracks how many games you've played online? Any way to find this out?

I guess I'm confused. On IGN, it says after 10 vs. matches you should open up Marth, I've played way more than that and haven't opened up the character yet.

I'm beginning to dislike this game.

I was playing a lot of SSB:Melee leading up to its release and it felt like that game I was much more in control of. In SSB:Brawl it seems like everything is overdone. The items kill you too fast. The arenas have too much impact on the game. It even seems like sometimes I get hit at 40% and go flying and other times I get hit at 95% and go 2 feet.

Obviously, I'm not going to give this game up. And I can't because no one else is going to want to play Melee, but it's a little frustrating. I got to keep giving it time and get more familiar with it. I hope it works out.

I feel the same way. Either moves/items take up way too much damage, or everything has way too much of an impact on your health.

And games seem to go by much faster.
