    1) Most people complain that Halo moves too fast, is too twitchy, etc. No one wants to realize that it is actually less of a run and gun, in it's deathmatch modes, than COD4 is.

    2) Obviously, if you're racking up assists, someone can still kill people.

      Heh. I should've said that I can't kill anyone anymore, :P.

And really? After playing CoD then recently playing Halo for the hell of it, I just find Halo moves SO slow. Maybe it's just me, lol.

Oh yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you on the speed point. I personally think Halo is slower-paced than COD4 as well. It's just the normal complaints about Halo's gameplay that I've seen is that it's too "run-'n-gun" and such, and yet a lot of those people are the same that find COD4 to be an amazing game.

this is something I've been saying for a while now and people think I'm crazy. COD4 lost its appeal with me while I still play Halo 3 all the time.

I'm looking forward to Cold Storage but where's the new maps? Ghost Town is fun but Rats Nest and Standoff sucked.

Well, I'm downloading the legendary pack right now. 200 points isn't a big deal to me and I feel like playing some Halo.

If any OSers still play, hit me up and we'll get a game in sometime.

Anyone have a problem with your XBOX360 eating the Halo 3 disk? I have seem to have that problem now with 2 Halo 3 disks. Just wondering if anyone else has had that problem?

Cold Storage and the Icy Treats (FFA) playlist is up. Got in a game of Fiesta Slayer. Map brings back memories. Can't wait to play more later today. I like the ambient noise and I noticed some flood outside the glass in a section of the map.

We should be hearing something about the next map pack (Mythic?) in the near future. Ghost Town is easily one of the better maps Bungie has ever created. You don't like Rats Nest or Standoff? I think those are good maps, especially Standoff. The two are certainly better than most of the maps that shipped with the game.

Legendary map pack is totally worth it. Ghost Town, Avalanche, and Blackout are arguably the 3 best maps in the game.

I like Standoff, especially since there's no sniper rifle on it, but the game types that are fun (assault, CTF) never occur on it. It's always team BRs or team slayer and when it's team BRs, it ends up just being that everybody hides behind the rocks and fires across the middle at each other. That's not enjoyable to me.

Rats Nest is alright but nobody ever knows how to play on it, and then you get people who quit or just mess around. The games that are fun on it are great, but those happen maybe 1 out of every 15 rounds played on it.

I just feel like the maps in general lack so much compared to what we had in Halo 2. Avalanche and Blackout are great but they're remakes. I loved playing every map in Halo 2 with the exception of Backwash and Relic.

Just played a few games on Cold Storage. I like how they kept the map unchanged from Chill Out. I played a game of Team BR's and it actually felt like I was playing old school Halo 1 FFA on Chill Out.

I'll probably be online around 10 or so if anyone wants to play.

Actually, the bigger problem is that it's too "jump-'n-gun", IMO.

                        Bungie Weekly Update

A previous update said major changes were coming for online and it looks like next week will be when we find out what they are.

Next week, I will tell you all about AU2.
AN XSV PLAYER asks: Is it possible to get some more in-depth descriptions of the new maps? Maybe even a sketch or something?

This is Purple Reign. I did the freehand on computer paper using a Pilot G-2 7 and the "coloring" in Photoshop.

The only thing I’ll give you to chew on until then is that the Battle Rifle will NOT be changed.
So much for getting my hopes up. I wonder what else they will change?

                              Bungie Weekly Update

                              AU Deuce

Last week I mentioned that there was a second Autoupdate coming to Halo 3 and that I'd talk about it this week.

Mostly invisible to players are a mess of backend changes that continue to pump more information to us about behaviors (naughty and nice), tendencies and general smoothing of issues underneath Halo 3’s hood that we weren’t thrilled with.

Much more visible to the players is some new functionality coming to Halo 3’s Experience system.

As it stands in Halo 3, Experience is collected into a single bucket which then uses your highest skill in a ranked playlist to give you your “Rank.” We’re adding new Playlist Ratings to Halo 3 Matchmaking.

Before I break down how things are changing here’s what is NOT changing:
                              • We are not resetting your “Skill.” Your Trueskill value will not change.
                              • We’re not resetting your current EXP. Your total EXP will still be displayed in your Service Record and that Rank will still be displayed in your Service Record.

However, at the Playlist level, things are changing noticeably.

While your total experience will still continue to climb in your Service Record, when AU2 goes live, we are enabling individual Experience ratings in each playlist. Playlist Ratings are based on how much experience you’ve accrued in a given Playlist. We’ll be basing your rating in a given playlist off of this value. When AU2 is released, we’ll begin tracking your experience per playlist, in that respect, everyone begins fresh. These new Playlist emblems will be familiar to Halo 3 players, but they have received a light graphical pass in game to distinguish Playlist Ratings from your Overall Rating.

In the simplest terms this means that becoming a General in Team Slayer is no longer dependent on reaching Level 50 and acquiring a certain number of total experience points. Via Playlist Ratings, players can reach General in as many playlists as they want .The currency powering these new Playlist Ratings is Experience.

Here's an example of how the Playlist Progression system could appear on Bungie.net. You can see the Progress bar beneath the name of the playlist as well as the parenthetical denotation of whether or not a playlist is Social or Ranked.

Under this system, however, players will have individual Ratings in each playlist and they’ll see a graphical treatment of that here on Bungie.net and they’ll see their current status for the playlist that they are in. In custom games, the Rating on a player’s Service Record will be the icon that other players see.
                              Shishka’s Matchmaking August Playlist Update

                              Bring us home, Shishka.

                              Matchmaking changes for August, 2008:

                              Ranked

                              Team Objective
                              • ADDED Oddball
                              • ADDED King of the Hill
                              • REMOVED Ghost Town from symmetrical map variants

                              Team Doubles
                              • ADDED Oddball
                              • ADDED King of the Hill
                              • ADDED 2 Flag on the Pit
                              • ADDED 1 Flag on Blackout

                              Ranked Big Team Battle
                              • “Heavy” map variants added to Slayer rotation
                              • Standoff Heavy modified for more insanity
                              • ADDED Sandtrap Heavy

                              DLC

                              DLC Slayer
                              • Increased weighting on Cold Storage

                              Hardcore

                              MLG
                              • REMOVED MLG Blackout

Double EXP Weekends (In order of appearance)
                              • Legendary Brawl (Ranked)
                              • Grifball
                              • Team Snipers
                              • Living Dead
You may be thinking to yourself “Hey, that’s a pretty short change list.” While a lot of the changes done this month were backend things that players will never notice, you would be right to think that August’s changes feel very minimal. The reason for this is that we’ve been focused on preparing a larger series of changes to Matchmaking for September. Much larger.

                              Much, much larger.

No, really. It’s huge. You should see how giddy Luke gets when I talk about the tentative plan.
