The rumor is next week.

Bungie is to announce its much talked about new game next week, an industry insider has revealed.

Speaking to GAMER.tm, an industry insider has confirmed that Microsoft is due to hold an event in Europe next week, where Bungie is due to take the wraps off its next game – the first title the studio has developed since splitting from Microsoft.

Seeing the words "team" and "squad" in the transmissions leads me to believe that maybe the squad-based tactical shooter rumor will end up being true.

According to the source, the new Halo game will be a spin-off that resembles "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." It will reportedly tell a "less cartoony" and "more bloody, violent, and grim" tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the pan-racial religious empire known as the Covenant. The game's atmosphere was described as similar to that of the live-action Halo shorts directed by South African filmmaker Neil Blomkamp (pictured), who was to helm the now-stalled big-screen adaptation of the game.

The source says that the upcoming Halo game is a tactical shooter that will follow a squad of colonial marines or orbital-drop shock troopers engaged in "intense" fighting on the ground. Gameplay details were scant, other than the fact that it will reportedly let gamers play as an entire squad in co-op mode through the entire campaign. The exact number of co-op players has yet to be finalized, but it could be as high as eight.

Tonights transmission image is certainly darker than anything in the current Halo games too.

Assuming the tactical shooter thing is true, I am very excited to see what bungie does with it. It's obvious that bungie is group of people that flat out are going to make great games. For the last seven years, we have seen halo 1, 2, and 3. I'm really looking foward to seeing something different from them.

I just recently went back to playing this game after finding out that Team Swat is back and now the achievements make me want to come back and play it more.

And the one achievement that says ya have to have a 4 man Co-Op legendary Campaign with Iron on and Everyone has to be in Ghosts. WTF. How the heck that suppost to work?????

I'm pretty sure that just means you have to beat the final level with everyone in Ghosts instead of the Waarthog.
