    Bungie Weekly Update

By now you’re probably aware that Avalanche is the second map coming in the Legendary Map pack, available April 15th on Xbox Live Marketplace. Aside from the April 15th date meaning more new maps coming to Halo 3, it also means the Heroic Maps are going to be free as of March 25th at 2 a.m. Pacific. Remember, as of the April playlist update, the Free Heroic Maps will be required in Ranked Big Team, Social Big Team, Team Slayer and Rocket Race playlists. We’re requiring these maps in the following playlists to give players more options with the map rotations and by including a high population playlist like Team Slayer, we hope that the maps will permeate through the Community, resulting in more games played on these maps in Matchmaking.
When will we see Moonlight Sonata?

Moonlight Sonata, the third map from the Legendary Map pack will be unveiled next Tuesday, right here on Bungie.net.
I bought the Heroic Maps but rarely played them in Matchmaking, what’s different about Legendary?

Once the Heroic maps are free and then required to access certain playlists, we hope to see them played more frequently in Matchmaking. At the beginning of April, the DLC playlists will remain focused on Heroic, then just as the Legendary Map Pack releases, that playlist will be revamped to focus specifically on the Legendary Maps, again in two Social flavors – DLC Slayer a 4v4, Team Slayer-focused playlist and DLC Objective a 6v6 playlist with just objective games on the Legendary Maps. Additionally, the first weekend after the Legendary Maps ship will be a Legendary Map required Double XP Weekend, called Legendary Brawl – a ranked, 12-player Free For All playlist incorporating a mix of the Legendary, Heroic and shipped maps.

Additionally, Legendary Maps will be added to all of the existing Halo 3 playlists. However, keep in mind that in order for the maps to show up, all players in the game must have the Legendary Maps. We will continue to do specialty weekends and find additional ways for you to enjoy your Legendary map purchase.
Update has an overhead view of Avalanche and the weapon, vehicle, equipment locations.

Crazy that one side will have a completely different vehicle set. Should end up being good fun in big team.

I''m praying to god that moonlight sonata is Lockout.

well the third map was released today. It's called Blackout, and if that sounds familiar, that's because it is.

Time to get excited. Giggity, giggity.

I'll probably be playing Halo a bit again once these come out.

I'd rather have Chill Out, but I'm not complaining about Lockout at all. Sidewinder, Lockout, and the new MLG playlist will definitely get me back into Halo 3.

Just as I had fired up the car and had been driving away from the Halo house, they busted out Blackout, Avalanche, and Ghost Town. I pretty much did a U-turn and almost flipped my car over doing so.

I'm back in to Halo again.

In addition to the aesthetic changes, how has the map changed functionally? It’s a strict port, but there are differences, detail them:

AM: Most of the jumps, even the crazy ones from Halo 2, are there. However a few are tweaked or removed and there is one spot that was altered that makes it less easy to lock down a specific quadrant of the map. Also, the small platforms next to the air vent are at slightly different elevations.
I'm taking it that they removed that window in the library (room connected with the BR tower), that lets you look into the level below you. That's probably a change for the better because if you had a good team, you could easily set up by the battle rifle tower and camp there the entire game.

                                Bungie Weekly Update

As noted on the front page, and hopefully discovered by now, if you’ve logged into Halo 3 today – Team SWAT returns for a bonus weekend after last weekend’s version of the Double EXP fast-paced headshottapalooza turned off early. We identified the cause of the issue and it’s one we hope to not see again.

Team SWAT will be available until Monday morning at 2 a.m., where it will disappear and another long-clamored for playlist will appear in Halo 3: The MLG Playlist.

MLG (Major League Gaming), for unaware folks, is an organization dedicated to competitive gaming at the highest level. Using the Forge they’ve taken Halo 3’s maps and gametypes and distilled them down into a focused series matches requiring teamwork, accuracy and coordination. For a pretty detailed description of MLG’s gametypes and settings head over to their site and check out the changes and their reasoning for them: MLGPro.com/playlist.

We’ve found that the MLG style has a real flavor to it. A few games and you'll start to detect that subtle but important rhythmic difference. It usually takes a couple of games to roll back into “regular” Halo’s more serene pace. The slight speed and damage changes really do take some getting used to. Even if you’re not a fan of the hyper-competitive gametypes, give it a try, you might find you like it better than you think. Certainly fans of Team hardcore, the list this one replaces, should find a lot to like.

As for SWAT’s long term future, don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of it. Halo matchmaking is about to go into its predicted renaissance period, with lots of new maps, gametypes and even more energy and variety than before.
