I had some games to trade in, so today I reserved this and paid in full. I'm pumped, and glad this game sort of came out of nowhere. It'll fill the gap nicely before Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead.

Looking to rent this game somewhere down the road. Looks like it could be fun.
I'm just going to be so busy this fall with games. It's definitely a good season to be a gamer.Comment

Eurogamer Review - 7
This doesn't speak very highly of the game's pace or balance, and it's this area that renders Dead Space less impressive than it first appears. You spend a huge chunk of the story running backwards and forwards across the Ishimura, fixing a series of core systems at the behest of Kendra and Hammond. Each time you fix one element, they pop up to tell you something else is malfunctioning or missing. It gets to the point where you half expect them to ask you to find some toner for the photocopier and fetch them a sandwich from the shop. Each maintenance job takes the form of a fairly basic puzzle, where the solution always relies on Stasis, Kinesis or a combination of the two, with the treks in between punctuated by scripted monster attacks. There are certainly moments that make you jump, but the game struggles to maintain the pervasive atmosphere of dread so acutely captured in the opening section.
It turns what should have been a nail-biting fight for survival into a wearying series of petty chores, forcing the gameplay into a predictable routine for the first two-thirds of its playing time. As far as horror goes, nothing kills the mood faster than predictability and when you have to include dialogue for your characters commenting on the seemingly fruitless repetition of what they're doing, that's usually a sign that the pace of a game needs closer attention.None of these criticisms will detract from your enjoyment, provided all you want from a game is the opportunity to repeatedly turn evil monsters into red mush in gorgeous HD detail. Dead Space easily delivers on that promise, but fails to turn its polished production values into something truly memorable over the long haul.
Dead Space is at its best when it does things unique to the third-person shooter genre; the aforementioned zero-gravity sequences (which feature fantastic audio effects that make you feel like you're in outer space), the storytelling method (events unfold via hovering video log monitors that you watch as you walk around, rather than through traditional cut-scenes -- and it's much more impressive than the events themselves), and the dismemberment system all come to mind. Apart from the lack of variety within them, the characters and environments are some of the best looking on the market, with blood splatters and rusted metals all over the place.
Dead Space ultimately feels like an incredibly polished and varied 6-hour game stretched out to make it twice that long. While I felt like I was repeating the same objectives a few too many times, the combat held up so well that I didn't even mind...too much.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Every review mentions how repetitious it is, that completely seals it for me.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
Might GF it sometime, but it's just another casualty of the fall. If this had come out over spring/summer when we have a gaming drought then I'd possibly have purchased it. With the insane amount of games coming out now though gotta make some tough cuts.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

This is why I think the Fall is bad for new IP. It just gets lost in the Shuffle unless its a AAA title(Grears of War, ETC..).follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Usually Gamespot and IGN are pretty reliable for shooter reviews, it's the sport reviews where they are somewhat dubious.
That being said Gamespot's pros seem alot stronger than the cons. I'll take the truly terrifying gameplay over repetitve missions any day of the week. This is a must buy.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
I would rent both only because any game in the 7's is not worth buying IMO and although Dead Space is reviewed well, I just realized that there's no multiplayer so I don't know know if I want to fork out $60 for limited replay value. Might rent but I take my time with FPS so I might wait to get it used. Only problem is I got another 3 weeks until R2 and I really have the urge to play a good FPS before then since 2K9 turned out to be disappointing and is not consuming my gaming time.Comment
