Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
I just completed Chapter 5 last night. I am having an absolute blast with this game! As of right now, it is the best game I have played this year.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
Here is my routine with the game. I wait till late at night, crank surround sound up, I dance with mary, and I play this game in all its glory. Talk about a intense game. I am not one to be scared with a game, but this is one game I feel on edge the entire experience.
Spoiler
There is one part where u walk into a kitchen and it is a small room with a single table. The ship goes into quaritine mode and locks down all the doors with you in the room. The lights kill, except for some flicking lights couple places. Then the screaking of the claws on the metal starts to surround you. They dart in and out of the light moving all around you. Then they start popping through the vent ducks around you. Limited ammo, limited health packs, it all just adds to the intense tension this game brings.
It is one hell of a game.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
It's funny, this isn't a game but an experience because on a big HDTV and a good surround sound set up it's almost surreal and I've never been so immersed in a game. I look forward to playing when night falls and being totally in the dark. RE4 on the Wii was fun too but the graphics weren't comparable and the sound isn't nearly as immersive because of the limitations of the console. I can't wait to play RE5 in the spring.
BTW I'm playing on medium and while's it's not easy it's not all that hard in the first couple of chapters. Any of you playing on hard and is it more rewarding without being way too difficult because I just want this game to last as long as possible the 1st time thru without it being impossible in some spots at the highest difficulty.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
I can't articulate how impressed I am with this game. It just.....delivers. The graphics are really quite excellent (the smoke effects ARE FANTASTIC) and the sound...oh the sound! Do yourself a favor and PLEASE play this game with Headphones so you can hear every thing - it's just amazing. The soundtrack is top notch.
I'm only on Chapter 3 and I feel like I need a cigarette (and I don't smoke!) Awesome game so far.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
One thing I have to agree with the review on right now, is that it is starting to get a little old. There isn't much of a variety in creatures, and quite a few of the locations are the same hallways and rooms tossed down with slight variations. I'm also to the point where I'm now revisiting a level I already beat - which isn't bad, but it does make the ship and environment feel smaller than it should (as the review says).
It's still fun, and I'm still pressing forward to beat it - but it is starting to feel a little bit "been there done that already".Comment

If I was stuck on a ship with a alien form that makes humans there hosts. I think there would be only so many types.
Plus you are on a ship so you have to take that into consideration, there is only going to be so much varity and i think there is more than there would be on a real ship of its kind.
From a game point I see where you coming from. But from a real point of view I think it is pretty spot on.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
Damn, this game just sucks you in and doesn't let go. I haven't been so wrapped up in a story since Mass Effect. There are some truly terrifying moments, and I gotta say, I love the fact that they employ the "less is more" train of thought in a lot of phases of the game. There are so many times that i'll walk by a vent waiting for something to jump out, or walk down a hallway anticipating something to attack me, only for nothing to happen. And just as you get a little comfortable, BANG, something leaps at you from the shadows.
Awesome game!Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
It is a true showcase that not having multiplayer is still a good option if the experience and story are good enough.
One of the best titles I have played period.
I will say it is honestly the most immersive game I have ever played.Comment

Re: Dead Space (360/PS3)
When I heard the the game was scary I was kinda like "Yea whatever, it's a video game, how scary can it be?" Well boy was I wrong. Anytime I load this game up and start moving around my stomach is in knots and I don't know how many times I've jumped out of my seat, it's not just the sudden moments it's the suspense. It's just feels like I'm watching a really good horror movie that happens to be 15 hours long. Even the parts where I die and start over and I know what's coming, I still jump when they show up suddenly because this game is great at conveying complete scary mayhem. You're shooting and saying "holy ****" at the same time. All I ever mutter to myself while I'm playing is "Man I'm creeped out". Anywhere I walk I'm in my aiming mode (especially when the elevater opens) and don't even think about running around unless the baddies are after me.
I have to stress again you have to play this game in the dark on a big TV with a great sound system enveloping you or it loses half it's effect. It's soundstage is something that is neglected in video games these days as everybody concentrates on graphics. Give me a game with killer sound anytime over killer graphics because being immersed in a game makes it much more fun.
Anybody on the fence about playing this game. Play it NOW, even if it's not your cup of tea. It's just FUN, which alot of games are not these days. I have friends who don't care to play it because they don't' like those type of games like Resident Evil. This is one of those rare games where it transcends genres and should be experienced by anybody who is a gamer. I just hope Resident Evil 5 is not fully finished yet and take some cues from this game, at least sound wise, to give it some last minute polish in making it truly creepy.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 10-20-2008, 04:59 PM.Comment

To get the most out of dead space
1) Big screen TV
2) Complete darkness
3) Surround sound cranked up
Oh and walking around in AIM mode is a must. It brings up the flash light so moving slow and checking rooms before moving in is how I tend to move. Before opening a door aswell I am in AIM mode waiting for anything to mode so i can rip its bloody leg offLast edited by Phobia; 10-20-2008, 05:10 PM.Comment
