I would rent both only because any game in the 7's is not worth buying IMO and although Dead Space is reviewed well, I just realized that there's no multiplayer so I don't know know if I want to fork out $60 for limited replay value. Might rent but I take my time with FPS so I might wait to get it used. Only problem is I got another 3 weeks until R2 and I really have the urge to play a good FPS before then since 2K9 turned out to be disappointing and is not consuming my gaming time.

Yeah...I'm just getting Fifa anyways, so if I pick another game I get one free...but not really sure there's 2 games I'd buy otherwise, so I don't know. Plus all the awesome games coming out in the next month (Fable 2 is gonna rock).

Dead Space is technically a survival horror game, but it should really be compared to motion picture juggernauts The Thing and Aliens, as it channels the essence of those films more than it does any other game. If horror is your forte, dim the lights, crank up the surround sound, and take the deepest breath you ever have. I think you’ll agree, no game has ever been this frightening.

In the dark and corrupted corridors of the Ishimura, gamers are treated to the premiere accomplishment in survival horror since Resident Evil 4. Dead Space is a chilling combination of mystery, tension, and straight-up scare tactics that expertly plays off of the player’s fear and paranoia. More importantly, the game doesn’t stumble over combat in service to the atmosphere. Battle controls rarely exhibit the genre’s typical sluggishness, and necessity of dismembering foes encourages gleeful experimentation with your entire arsenal of clever weapons. Dead Space’s biggest problem is devising good reasons for you to progress; most objectives are thinly disguised “go here and press this button” missions, making protagonist Isaac Clarke seem like an errand boy. The harrowing combat and disturbing story are the real stars, weaving an eerie ambiance that will keep Dead Space lurking in the dark corners of your mind long after you turn the lights back on.

Thanks to Dead Space, the horror/survival genre is brimming with excitement. Dead Space’s release also marks the first time the RE series has looked vulnerable within its genre. Hmmm, maybe the term “extinction” is more than just some movie’s subtitle.

Good reviews. I'm not going to worry too much about certain aspects being repetetive. Assasins creed was a great game yet extremely repetetive at times. I'll definitely pick this up sometime during the next month or so.

Superbly detailed action, story and upgrade system; incredibly scary; includes a veritable pantheon of awesome mechanics.

Leave some time after the credits roll to pull yourself together and stop your hands from shaking; no, seriously.

Drawing heavily on a multitude of science-fiction and horror themes, Dead Space might initially seem a bit formulaic, but rest assured that by the end of this roughly 15-hour saga of terror, you'll be left a blubbering mess huddling with your controller slack in your shaking hands. But surely that must be hyperbole...

It is not hyperbole.

Dead Space is an achievement that rivals greats like Half-Life 2 and BioShock. Its nuanced and labyrinthine plot, fully-realized characters and devastating attention to minute graphical details are beyond reproach. There are a few minor quibbles one could unearth (and we will), but these fail to mar what is one of the better-realized gaming experiences to date.

I'm so tempted to pick this up.

Sci Fi Channel's documentary explores EA's use of the "science of fear" in trying to make the scariest game ever.

I'm wavering...I think I'll cop this and SR2 now...I dunno, this just sounds so damn cool, and Assassins Creed was kinda repetitive at times but still a blast. It's getting 8.5's and 9's, says something about it....

LOL! The more I see commercials, this darn game is tempting since I don't have anything else to buy now till 11/4 when Resistance 2 comes out. We will see.

Has anybody found this game at a Toys R Us, another thread mentioned TRU wouldn't have it until 10/20....called my local store yesterday and they said they didn't know when they would get it...

Since when have you held back on buying video games anyways?

LOL! Uhhhhmmm, I have not bought much at all in 2008. There are guys on here like ExtremeGamer that could attest to that. Between running my own site and also working with movie studio PR groups for my site, gaming has fallen to the back burner.
