I would suggest some to avoid: Dhalsim, Chun Li, Blanka, El Fuerte, E. Honda, Guile, Bison and Vega. Guile, Blanka and Bison aren't bad by any means but just have the charge specials, which are harder to do with a controller because you tend to jump when pressing forward.

Ken or Ryu might not be bad starting points. The hadoken and hurricane kicks are pretty easy specials to do and if you could learn those as well as a basic 3-hit combo and blocking then you'd be on your way to winning some matches.

I got this today, it seems pretty hot. At first the game seemed really slow, but after a few rounds it was all good. I guess I just had to adjust to the speed. Ken has always been my boy so I'll probably roll with him for a while.

what do you mean harder with a controller? 360 controller or fight pad? Or you mean anything that's not an arcade stick?

Born you are the MFing man. I have been doing that exact thing and it is nice to read I am on the right track. I practice the same combo in training mode, and set the CPU to fight and react like a real fight. My guy right now is Sagat, and I work on the basics with him. What I love is that you know you get a combo right because it is executed lightning fast when you do it.

I also practice the fireballs and the tiger uppercut motions a lot. I like the "meaty attack" of throwing a fireball right when the opponent is getting up, but you have to be able to throw a fireball at will and that takes practice.

Another thing I do in training mode is practice my anti airs. For Sagat you want to high kick. I am just training my game to do this on the fly and not think at all.

I do have a question..I see a combo for Sagat that goes c.Lk c.lp CANCEL to tiger uppercut.

Why do you cancel in this instance? I mean the punch gets off super fast.

Also..I like the punch to set up a grab, but this seems about impossible with Sagat. I get real close, push forward and still can't grab the guy. Is it just not in Sagat's game?

well I've never used a fight pad so I don't know. From the reviews in this thread about how well the fight pads work I'd say it's better on that but with just the regular 360 controller the charge guys might not be the best choice.

That's just this man's opinion though. I've never been real good with the characters who have charge specials, perhaps you'll have better luck with them.

You'd be surprised at how little input it takes to work and how inaccurate that input can be and have it still work.

I second that, and I feel like the charge specials are harder in 4 than in 2. Blanka used to be my boy but I feel like the charge roll just takes too long to execute so I've stayed away.

I have to say, sour grapes aside, Seth is a cheap piece of crap. Imagine my frustration when playing as Ryu I pull off my ultra hadoken only while he did his "attract" move only to see it go right through him (behind him actually). Just add that to the repeated sonic books and teleports. I did beat him, but not in that round.

Any suggestions on challenge level 3 with Ryu, Ken, or Sakura? It's just a medium punch - hadoken combo but no matter how fast I do it it doesn't let me pass. Is there some trick I'm missing?

Do it faster. Seriously. And look at the lettering change colors for the timing. This is a great combo to master, so it is worth the practice.

I cleared level 3..but 4 is a whole different beast.

I usually play on a stick but I was using the controller earlier to practice the ultras on it. If u are using the analog stick and want to do the QCF x2 motion, just start from down and roll it to forward and then roll it back to down and then back up to up/forward. This worked for me like 90% of the time without getting the EX shoryuken. So try that, just keep rolling the stick and make sure u finish above forward.

The goal is to cancel the medium punch into the hadoken. You want to start the hadoken movement before the medium punch fully connects and it will cancel really fast into the hadoken. The moment you press medium punch, start the qcf right after. Its really quick but once you get the hang of it, its really easy.

I dont see how anyone could play this (or any fighting game) with the analog sticks. Even the D-pad on the 360 controller is more accurate than that to me.

If you cancel the c.lp, the tiger uppercut comes out immediately. The c.lp still connects, but it comes out almost like its one move.

Im sure you have seen ken/ryu players do a quick punch right before a fireball or shoryuken, that is a cancel of a s.fp, then fireball/shoryuken
