Eurogamer: Blizzard's road to redemption: Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls

In basic terms, in Diablo 3 the items you really want very rarely drop, so off to the Auction House everybody goes to bid virtual, and sometimes real, money. Players who need more powerful equipment to combat Diablo 3's harder challenges feel forced to use it - and that's the problem. The fact the console version doesn't have the Auction House suggests Blizzard agrees. And yet, here we are, chatting about the upcoming expansion, and it's clear the Auction House is here to stay.

"Honestly, at the end of the day, trading is an important aspect of Diablo," Mosqueira continues. "Like it or not, there are players out there who actually attribute real world monetary value to their items. So it was really important for us to provide a safe environment in which they could trade items."
"We acknowledged early on the Auction House did have an impact on the moment to moment gameplay," Mosqueira says. "The whole motivation behind Loot 2.0 is to make sure playing the game was the most fun, the most rewarding and the most satisfying way to get items. That resulted in the philosophy of dropping fewer but better and more epic items. We want players to be in the game and playing.

"Ultimately the Auction House will still be out there, but we don't want players to feel they need to go to the Auction House. If they want to, that's their own choice. But we don't want them to feel they need to go to the Auction House."
"I got to see it from all angles, especially having worked on console," he says. "Something Kevin says all the time is: Diablo plays best when you're playing with other people. Because not a lot of people connect their consoles to the internet, that's where the whole idea of having to get four people on the same couch playing together. That's how we get that social aspect.

"But on PC, we really want players to feel they're part of the bigger Blizzard and Diablo community. It's a choice of platform and opportunity for our players to benefit from. There's a more secure item trading environment, but also a more social environment.
    So, always-online isn't going anywhere?

    "It's not going anywhere."

Blizzard seriously needs to pull their heads out of their *** with that story.

77Million XBox 360's have been sold (not knowing how many are actually in circulation today as plenty of those have been replacements I am sure.) 46 Million users have XBox Live subscriptions. PS+ won't give numbers like that, but I wouldn't put it too far behind.

So this is me back to saying "Hey Blizzard, **** You" after just praising them for turning things around on a console.

******* corporate doublespeak. They say out of one side of their mouth that they "had to take it out" because "not many people connect their consoles to the internet", while out of the other side of their mouth Activision literally priases the online console gaming world because the Call of Duty series makes them a metric ****ton of cash.

So yes. In short, **** YOU Activision Blizzard. **** you and your treatment of your PC fans which have carried your series for years. You disgust me as human beings because you won't even tell the truth about your decisions.

Just bought it for 360 yesterday and love it. Been trying to play this since it came out for pc but my pic graphic card wasnt compatible. So I'm like a kid in a candy store. Does anyone want to play together? If so add me Deion esco. It's cool you can play up to 4 players online.

Man, the loot is so much better in the console version. At level 24, I have like 5 legendary items equipped that are pretty much tailored to my barbarian. Basically every legendary item i've had drop has had a combination of strength and vitality, along with something in regards to fury regen.

So much more fun to play when you know that the next piece of awesome loot could be right around the corner, be it on a monster or in a random pile of rocks. Heck, one of my legendary items dropped off of a weapon rack. On the PC version, I don't think I ever even had a magic item drop off of a weapon rack.

Got it for the PS3 and am enjoying it. It's same old Diablo, which is great. Love looting games.

Stupid question time: what is the point of and/or is it worth training blacksmiths? Seems like looting is just a better way to acquire weapons and armor. I must be missing something.

            Thanks!

The later recipes are very good for the stat rolls but other than that its a choice. The Gen Merchant is better to invest in though.

For those like me who don't have this game a demo dropped today for this on the 360.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Played the demo today, hit the level cap. Went out and bought it, installing it on my 360 as I type this.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

That's no cheap demo...Goes at least to the Skeleton King (I stopped just before that quest started), which is about half of Act 1.

This is my first time playing Diablo so I started with a Monk on easy to get my feet wet but I'm really looking forward to playing with a Demon Hunter. In fact, I may just start a new game on normal level with one. Any tips?
