Re: Lets Talk About: MARIO KART WII

I picked up a copy of this today. I got GTA4 as well so I'm going to try not to devote all of my time to that and ignore this game. I only played the first cup on 50cc and a Time Trial to test the bikes out. So far I have mixed feelings on the wheel. It seems pretty responsive but there were a few times where I went to drift around a corner and the kart tried to drift in the opposite direction I was going for. It also didn't seem that responsive when trying to pop wheelies on the bike. I'm going to stick with it though and see how I feel about it after several more races.

Wiimote + Nunchuk... that's the way to play this game. So much fun.

Man, Rainbow Road is a trip! I always seem to get 1st on that map. I'd love to play with you guys. My code is posted in this thread a while ago.

Yudddd and GIGGAS, I'm gonna add you guys to my Mario Kart list tonight, sorry I hadn't done so yet! I've been pretty into Grand Prix so I haven't been playing online, but I starred all cc's of Grand Prix last night, so I'm pretty close to having everything unlocked (just Mirror Mode and a few more staff ghosts to go!), then I was gonna start playing online more.

Anyways, I'm gonna add you guys tonight, PM me if you ever want to get together one night and play some races. I'd like to see how it works with people on your friends list rather than just randoms.

Re: Lets Talk About: MARIO KART WII

working with people on your friends lists is kind of cool....it notifies you if they're logged in to Nintendo WFC. Sadly, you can't tell if they're playing offline because of how Nintendo's online is different than Live. But if a friend is on, the box 'FRIENDS' blinks with a smiley face in it, and you can instantly see who's online and where they are.

The chatting is pretty lame (about 100 canned messages you can say like "Go Red Team" or "Let's pick randoms"...that kind of thing). A friend creates a room, and then it's just the people in the room racing, no "outsiders".

TJ and I had some good races the other night and I can see where it would be a blast, IF we could get a bunch of us together some night.

Sadly, I have to leave town for a couple of nights here starting tonight, so I won't be online again until Friday night. THEN IT'S GO TIME!

How do most of you guys hook up your Wii online? I don't have a wireless router and the USB/Ethernet adapters are out of stock at a lot of places.

Mine's wireless. Do only certain ethernet adapters work?

Yeah, from what I've gathered online all the ones less than $45 are kinda a crapshoot. How much is the wireless adapter?

ehh, if you're planning on spending $45 on an adapter, might as well spend an extra $5 bucks and buy a wireless router. I know setting it up might be crazy, but let me know if you need help and I can guide you step by step. This also makes you're place more accessible if you were to buy or have a laptop anytime soon.

Anybody else think the comeback logic is worse than ever in this version?

Today, I was in a 50 cc race, had about a 10 second lead on the 3rd lap, was cruising to a victory, or so I thought. I got hit with a blue shell, immediately a POW went off, then immediately hit by a red shell, then somehow hit by another red shell, and then Bowser plows into me and knocks me off the course. I ended up finishing 4th, and I was pissed.

I honestly haven't seen this it all. I played the game for four hours last night and three hours tonight and on 150cc (plus the hard setting) I rarely saw blue shells or cheesy AI.

I don't think it's any worse than it's been in the past and I've only been screwed at the finish line a few times. That Bullet thing is hilarious to get down the stretch and can really boost your finish.

Well, does the Wii come equipped with a wireless card or do I need to buy something extra to plug into the console?

Setting up the wireless modem isn't hard, I actually work for a networking/IT/unified communications company so I do that nonsense for a living. If I don't need to buy anything extra to plug into the Wii (a card, etc) then I'll definitely buy a wireless router, heck I can probably bum one off work for free.

Yup, the wii is has built in wireless. Setup is pretty straightforward too. Supports 802.11g.
