Absolute blast. Got my step-mom to sing some classic stuff. Her singing More Than A Feeling was great.

I think they finally understand why I play this game so much.
Last Monday I hosted my 3rd annual Guitar Hero / Rock Band Christmas party at my house for my co-workers.
Ever since the first year when only 11 people showed for some GH I and II fun, the invitee list has grown and this year, over 40 people were crammed into my living room and hanging over the stairwell to catch a glimpse of this years' action.

What was so cool this year was the introduction of GHWT. Because roughly 50% of the guests were GH/RB noobies, we fired up GHWT first and allowed those people to get their feet wet on Beginner Mode. I can't begin to emphasize the impact this had on the evening. After about an hour of this, we switched to RB2, loaded my band and did not suffer a single failed gig all night!!! (No Fail Mode was not activated either). In fact, I found more of the people mastering Easy much quicker with less frustration after having the Beginner mode of GHWT under their belt. Last year, with some of the same type of people, gigs in RB1 were bombing left and right!

It really made the evening more enjoyable and it was fun to see the fan-base rise and our band maneuver its way up the Leaderboards.

Even after a week, I am still getting phone calls and e-mails from guests expressing their gratitude for such a great night!

So far the songs I bought are:
      More than a Feeling (Boston)
      Piece of Mind (Boston)
      Don't Speak (No Doubt)
      Snow (RHCP)

And I love them all. Oh yeah, and after three days of playing, I can play every instrument on expert. (Guitar I was doing since the GH days)

That's awesome. I'd love to have a get together that big for Rock Band.

Impressive. I assume you have real life drumming experience? Vocals is more of a "you have it or you don't" thing. I can do hard vocals on almost any song, but expert is tough.

I'm really liking Rock Band 2 so far. I like the new career tour mode look. Instead of having a separate one for solo and band, they just put them together and you can play with however many band mates you want - so I could have people join a song in my career if I wanted to at any time. Although, having to run around looking for the specific vendor that has a song on the list is a little annoying - the old one was easier in solo where it was just one big list, so it was easy to find songs.

But I like the challenges, and I like the setlists that seem to just choose 2-3 random songs from that difficulty for you to play in a row. Those are fun.

I suck at drums. I top out at hard on the easier songs right now. Guitar is really difficult for me.

EDIT: Now I found out why guitar is so hard. My guitar has the double strum problem. I'm using the RB1 guitar. Does this fix work http://www.quartertothree.com/game-t...ad.php?t=40188?

I actually don't have real life drum experience. Before I got the game I played the drums 5-10 times on medium and did pretty well. These past couple days I went from medium and did mostly hard, and last night I was doing pretty well on expert. I wouldn't say I'm capable of beating EVERY song on expert, but there are certainly a handful where I can get in the low 90% area. As far as the vocals go, I can sing pretty well in real life. But really, it's not about the pitch of your voice. It's how you can adjust it for each note, which people think is extremely difficult. All you have to do is play around with it and then it comes quick.

I'm just having trouble with the drums when it comes to the bass pedal being separate from the pads. I just don't know how you guys can do that!

                  Hopefully someday, I'll learn.

That pedal really throws me off too..i dont see how people can do that and hit the pads at the same time.

                    im so uncordinated

                      Re: Rock Band 2

Well, I can do it whilst hitting the pads at the same time, but I can't do it when it's, say, a nice beat like this (bass pedal is O):

                      Y - O
                      Y
                      YR
                      Y
                      Y - O
                      Y
                      YR
                      Y
                      Y - O

                      etc...

That's fine, but then something else comes along where the bass pedal is off from the pad hits, and it gets me all uncoordinated. It's not that I can't stand the business of what's on the screen and can't comprehend that, seeing that I do it with guitar all the time... it's that I can't get me feet to go at a different rhythm from my hands.

I've been stuck on hard with the drums for quite some time now. I can pass plenty of songs on expert, but any song with a decent amount of difficulty will give me lots of trouble. Though I'm sure I'll get over the hump eventually.

I can do most of the top 4 tiers of expert drums and some other ones higher than that. It's all about practice and being able to get your leg to do one thing, and your arms to do another.

On medium, the vast majority of the kicks are on-beat (so you're hitting the kick pedal at the same time as a pad) or they're spaced out enough where it won't throw you off much doing one or the other. When you get to hard, you really have to learn quick off-beat kicks. Then with the move to expert, you get lots of double kicks and long runs of kicks. It clicks with practice. I see a lot of improvement playing over the past couple of weeks.

There is a HUGE difference between the easy expert tiers and the difficult expert tiers. Some of the easy song, you could probably do them without ever having played before. Then there are songs like Panic Attack where I don't see how anyone can possibly do it.
