The Original 3:10 to Yuma is a true classic. The remake is slightly better imo.

As a huge fan of classic Western cinema, I must say that the original 3:10 To Yuma was a pretty lackluster film. However, the remake was very good but I have seen more than 500 Westerns in my life so it did not crack my top 10 list. As far as "modern" Western films are concerned, the Yuma remake is a top 5 film of the last 20 years, easily.

If Tombstone was all about Doc Holliday then it would probably be one of the best westerns ever. I just didn't really like Kurt Russell in that film or his story.

As far as recent westerns go Unforgiven and The Proposition are my favorites.

            Re: Red Dead Redemption

3:10 (remake) and TGTBATU are easily my two favorite westerns. Probably two of my top five favorite movies of all time as well.

It wasn't until a couple years ago that I got into westerns at all. My grandfather used to always be watching them when I would visit, and I always hated them. Of course, being young, I didn't appreciate story as much as I do now, so i'd just laugh at his westerns and be on my way. That is, until he let me borrow TGTBATU one weekend. I remember having the flu something awful while watching it, yet all I wanted to do was sit up and finish this movie. Amazing, amazing film.

Looking back five years or so, I find it hard to believe that I am calling a western based videogame arguably my most anticipated title of all time.

              Re: Red Dead Redemption

After looking at the IMDB, I honestly don't think I've ever seen Unforgiven. I thought I had Netflix'd the major ones I had heard of (Unforgiven, The Good/The Bad/The Ugly, Tombstone) but apparently I missed it somehow.

I'll have to make sure I see Unforgiven and The Proposition soon.

Maybe in a year or so, we'll get a Samurai game similar to RDR.

                    Re: Red Dead Redemption

If you're into Westerns at all, then all ten films on my list should be absolutely essential viewing. I know that Leone dominates my list with 4 titles, but his style was just absolutely perfect for the genre.

Is there a desert? I want to pull an Eastwood move with someone and tell them how far the next town is and ride off, leaving him with no water. Preferably it'd be Brett.

Brett would just take off his shirt and work on his tan

Unfortunately Brett will be sad to hear there are no "spray-tan" booths in RDR.

I'm really thinking about getting this. I still have fun with GTA 4's free roam today, and I can recall good memories of a bunch of OSers getting together and doing anything and everything in a big free roam game.. fun times.
