I just picked this game up, and I love it. Questions:

1. I'm horrible in all aspects of online play. Any tips? Or will practice just make perfect.

2. As you gain more experience will target lock happen as easy as it is like in GTA IV? I've noticed that it's more challenging to aim and hit targets in this game. Not a bad thing at all, and not complaining, but just wondering if they make this easier or more rewarding for you once you get more game experience, or have a certain amount of kills, or hit your targets at a certain % similar to GTA San Andreas....

The key is to get close enough to be effective. You start off with a pistol and shotgun both of which arent that great from anywhere but close range imo so you've got to get as close as possible.

As you level up things should get easier b/c you get the rifles that have more range on them. Other then that using cover and constantly staying in motion can help you stay alive.

i just say keep doing the gang missions and level up so that you won't be completely helpless in deathmatch. I'm still having fun with the online even if im dying a lot b/c I feel like once I level up enough I should be fine.

I'm also still tryin to figure out the maps so that should be a huge help too, so basically its practice makes perfect here lol!

For such an awesome game it had such a let down of a story.

The game built up Williams to be a huge villian and not only was he a little girl but there was no big showdown.

The side quests seemed so much more pointless and dumbed down than the regular side quests in GTA games.

The last bit where you die and take over as the son was interesting but done without any dramatic effect or emotion to the story.

Really weird. It felt like an **** game but played out like a C grade movie.

Not sure where I would rate it, probably not an 8/10 or A quality I guess.

Just got this game.... AWESOME!!! I'm 17.1% through the game so far and every single "quest" I've done it simply amazing. The story keeps you excited and wanting more, the world simply gorgeous to look at, multiplayer is flat out awesome.

I don't think this is worthy of spoiler tags but if it is, sorry! I just finished the part where you race in those carts. So much fun. I was wondering, do they have races in multiplayer? I only played 2 games of Gang Shootout (or whatever it's called) so I never really looked. I'd play races all day long if it's there.

Overall this game just blows my mind. I cannot wait for the DLC!

From what I've read, I might have been the only person thoroughly enjoying playing through the game a second time.

Then NCAA 11 came out. I'm not going to sell, because I honestly rank Red Dead as my favorite game on this generation of consoles, but it might be a little while before I get back into it.

From what I've read, I might have been the only person thoroughly enjoying playing through the game a second time.

Then NCAA 11 came out. I'm not going to sell, because I honestly rank Red Dead as my favorite game on this generation of consoles, but it might be a little while before I get back into it.

I can't wait to start playing it again. I want to get some of the outfits earlier and just go through it being it a badass and wear the bandanna and cause a ruckus.

I've found this game odd in that I absolutely loved playing through it, but as soon as I try to start a new game, I'm bored within minutes for some reason. It's strange - since my favorite GTA games I've been able to play through several times (GTA III I still have a blast playing).

I think its because its not in a city where theres always traffic, people, etc that the wide open world limits alot of what we're used to in a GTA. I know I spent hours just snagging cars and finding random things to do whereas RDR the towns are small and the hunting lost its luster after finishing the challenges. I just think the city life has helped the previous GTAs, imo.

Not at the moment. But upcoming DLC will add horse racing.

I agree with what you said, especially the part about Williamson, you spend about half(probably a bit more than that, actually) looking forward to catching him, and when you find him nothing really happens. At least they did build Dutch up a bit better and you confronted him a few times.

My biggest issue with the story is that there was zero justification for the US Marshalls sending 50+ guys to kill Marston after they let him go home, they would have killed him after Dutch was dead if they wanted him dead. It was really lazy storytelling, they wanted a shocking ending so they threw one in there without making it fit into the story.

It is probably one of the flat out worst stories I've ever seen in such an otherwise great game. I've played horrible games with worse stories, but never played such a good, fun game with such a bad story...its not like the story was HORRIBLE, typical R* story without much buildup actually, they just told it in a really poor way.

Were they going to kill him though? Keep in mind you walk out of that barn and instantly go into blasting mode. Maybe they weren't planning on killing him, but were left with no choice.

I don't see why they'd walk up in there with a huge army without the intention of killing him. They didn't want Williamson, Escuela(sp?), or Dutch alive, why would they want to take John alive?

They shoot first no matter what. You go outside with Uncle, have a small chat and by the time you gain control the soldiers are shooting at you before you or Uncle draws a weapon.

I mean, if you paid $10 to see a two hour movie of the story told in RDR, would you be happy? It would be 1:15 leading up to a showdown with Bill Williamson that is incredily anticlimatic, followed by a quick buildup of Dutch as the enemy, followed by an unjustified assault on the hero at the very end.

I'm used to R*'s games having a bland enough story to be forgotten, but not get in the way, with RDR it seems like they tried to step up their storytelling but it really seemed rushed.

Again, I only have strong feelings about it because the rest of the game is so good, I wish they took the same care in writing the script as they do making sure the open worldness of the game is so good. It had some great characters, but the overarching plot was really weak IMO.
