        Re: ArmA 2 (PC, 360, PS3)

        So playing DayZ over the weekend, me and my group decided to set up camp. We're set up on a large hill top overlooking miles of dense forest. The only reason we decided to make camp was because we had found a lot of vehicles. Currently we have 3 GAZ's, 2 Bettie Van's, 1 hatchback, and 2 ATV's. We also have 3 tents, filled with gear. We're completly loaded.

        After everyone went off I set off on my own on a new server. Started out in Balota found an AK, and within 10 minutes I had been dragged into a firefight between 4 guys. Managed to barely escape. I decided to stick to the forests on the way to Cherno, only problem was all the guys that had just been fighting, there were now more of them and all were heading down the road to Cherno.

        Got to Cherno, and flanked round the East side we're I helped out some guy with some supplies. He then died 10 minutes later...

        Got into the center of Cherno, some guy shot me with a revolver, confused him by running away in one direction, going around a building and coming behind him. Shot him but gave him a chance to live. Unfortuantly he didn't appreciate my kindness so I then drilled him. Then killed two other guys, took my chances and got the hell out.

        Moral of the story? Don't go into Cherno at night on a server with many players.

          Was thinking of waiting for standalone to iron some things out. Everyone still using the custom launcher to start the game?

                  Re: ArmA 2 (PC, 360, PS3)

                  OSU, I know time zones can be a problem, but I'm usually on a fair bit.

                  Last night went so well until I discovered the server admin had a hacker doing his dirty work for him. Within 5 minutes of spawning in, I was in Balota and found a DMR. Then we looted Cherno and got supplies and headed back to Balota to get picked up. We went to Kamenka to investigate a map marker, where two fresh spawns with hatchets were looting. Depsite not even threating them, they ran at us. Now I feel pretty bad killing any fresh spawn with a hatchet, but your intention is to kill us despite only having that as your weapon, then you deserve to die just for pure stupidity.

                  So they did... After that two hackers tried to hunt us by teleporting only to be banned as soon as they did. We continued heading north we're found a few crash sites, looted Stary, then had a heli go over us. As me and my buddy we're looting another crash site, the heli landed about 600-700 meters from us in an open field. So my friend took up position with his M107, and I got my FAL out and ran over. He killed the guy (Who happened to be the admin), and just as I got to the heli, we were teleported.

                  I spawned back in 2 hours later once it had calmed down, had a broken leg and low blood but managed to get myself fixed up. I headed North and heard the a heli go over, and realised it had landed at Devils Castle. I was negotiating some terms with a guy in the area who had med supplies when I realised the admin had just died, and the noise coming from the heli had stopped. A minute later, a guy went to grab the heli.. And boom, we were teleported again.

                  Now this was waaay to suspect. The admin had just kicked 4 guys for apparently spawning a box full of weapons in Rog (A place where a heli spawns), and another guy already in the game happened to be there. He said he never heard or saw anyone/anything. Then he said there was only a heli here, 10 seconds later, he was kicked for appart 'hacking'. Again.. a little sketchy. Both times we were teleported and either injured or killed, the admin never rolled back the server (Basically like going back in time). He said it was too much effort.... It takes like 5 minutes.

                  It was veeeeeery sketchy behaviour, so I won't be logging onto that one again.

                    I am interested in this game. I downloaded the free version, though it's a bit confusing to a beginner. I will have to investigate it.

                      The free version doesn't do the full game justice.

                        I see the full version is only $20, so perhaps I should go for it.

                        I finally got my first kill in multiplayer in the free version tonight. Made me happy.

                          If you're not in a rush, it might be worth waiting till the Steam Christmas sale to see if its put back up, it's been in the majority of the last few sales.

                            The last two weeks all I have played is ARMA 2. I get off work and I play couple hours every night. I have around 13 hours logged the last two weeks.

                            I wanted to see if anyone wanted to join me tonight or tomorrow for some missions online.

                            The server is going to be running these mods.

                            @CBA_CO
                            @ACE
                            @ACEX
                            @ACE_RU
                            @ACE_USNavy

                            You can download all mods from this link

                            The Missions will include.

                            Crash & Grab
                            *Rescue a capture pilot from a enemy encampment*

                            Hearts and Minds
                            *Green Berets lead locals against a enemy leader*

                            Reaper
                            *Special Forces operators, aided by a UAV, strike a Takiban hideout*

                            For Sound modifications I'm running the JSRS 1.5 sound pack. You are not required to run it, but I highly recommend it. It is a fantastic sound package.

                            If anyone is interested in joining, let me know.

                              I'd definitely be interested. Already have Arma 2.

                              How hard is it to install the mods, or are you using that updater tool?

                                I don't like adding little programs like that to my computer so I just do it manually. It is not real difficult to be honest.

                                For instance this is the completely steps.

                                1) Go here http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=14067

                                2) Download all 6 files ACE Core, ACE Extras, ACE RU, ACE Navy, ACE SM, CBA_CO

                                3) Unpack each at this location if you have steam version.
                                C:/programfilesx86/steam/steamapps/common/operation arrowhead
                                That is the main ARMA 2 operation arrowhead folder location.

                                4) Once each is unpacked there, go into the folder @ACE/store , in there you will see a file called userconfig that is zipped up also. Unpack it to the main arrowhead location like the others.

                                5) Mod is now installed.

                                --------------------------------------------------------------------

                                Now to play mods through steam it is simple also.

                                1) Start steam

                                2) Go to your library

                                3) Right click Operation Arrowhead

                                4) Go to properties and then click launch options

                                5) This box that pops up is how you run mods. The way to run them looks like this.

                                6) -mod="then folder name here"......semi colons separate each mod you want to run. So it would look like this if you ran all 6.

                                -mod=@CBA_CO;@ACE;@ACEX;@ACEX_RU;@ACEX_USNavy;@ACEX _SM

                                7) Then you hit ok and close box, then go launch game, game now starts with the mods you told to run.

                                Now for me, I like the JSRS 1.5 sound mod better than the ACEX_SM sound mod so instead of having @ACEX_SM at the end of my file I have ;@JSRS;@JSRS_ACE. Those two files are a different sound mod that works with ACE but I find the sounds much better.

                                It seems like a lot of steps but it literally takes 5 to 10 min tops. The longest step is downloading all the files. Once they are downloaded Winrar easily extracts them to the correct location and going into steam to set which mods to run is pretty easy. Then if you want to play default ARMA again, all you do is go back into your launch options and delete the text string. When ever you want to use the mod again, just re-add your launch options.

                                Now I will say one thing, keeping -nosplash in your launch options helps load the game faster since it skips the intro screen when loading the game. Now ACE will greatly extend the original load time because it loads a ton more stuff, once game is loaded though it works as normal.

                                Any questions Mill, just hit me up on steam. I can walk you through it pretty easy.

                                Example of my launch options
                                -nosplash -mod=@CBA_CO;@ACE;@ACEX;@ACEX_RU;@ACEX_USNavy;@JSRS ;@JSRS_ACE

                                Always load the CBA first, then next order should be the other mods, last mod should be your sound mod.

                                EDIT: Had to change couple things up, they changed the CBA file.
