Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
I didn't like it at first. But after leveling up and unlocking new attributes and weapon mods, I'm starting to come around.
I don't like that it takes almost a full clip to put down most enemies, and if you're on a team that isn't communicating you have zero chance of winning. But when you get in a game with some guys who actually want to complete objectives and win, it's pretty fun.
My biggest concern right now is the awful slowdown on Xbox Live. I've had to quit four games today because the framerate made it unplayable. I popped in Black Ops and everything ran smooth, so I'm guessing those issues aren't on my end. Hopefully this gets worked out because the game has potential.
I dig the SMART movement and the level of customization is unmatched in the FPS genre. But I have a feeling that the underwhelming graphics and no deathmatch modes will lead to this becoming a niche title that appeals to only a dedicated segment of FPS fans -- namely those who can't stand CoD, Halo, etc.

It may just be the circumstances of the review given the limited number of players at any one time, but I am already utterly sick of Brink’s bots. They seem to scale in difficulty to the number of human players you have in the game, but most of the time will just run to a spot, stand around, and shoot. Some will bum rush you with a shotgun and others will show no aggressiveness toward you. It’s a really inconsistent experience that does nothing to replace a human player. Unfortunately, I was only able to get into a game with 4 humans maximum during the review period, even during the “sessions” setup by Bethesda. I’m not sure if I was doing something wrong or if no one was around during these sessions, but I’ve basically played against bots the whole time.
Even when I was able to get online, most of the slots were filled by bots and even the addition of one human player resulted in a massive performance hit on the Xbox 360 version to the point where having a single human companion isn’t worth the drop in framerate and added latency.
I’m willing to make some concessions when it comes to the bots since the majority of players should be playing against other humans online when the game has actually been released, but unfortunately, there are far bigger problems with the core game to deal with. There are a lot of design decisions that are, frankly, quite surprising given that this isn’t Splash Damage’s first game.Comment

Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
BTW, I picked this up for my son today at Gamestop, but I knew something was up when the guy right in front of me was getting his pre order money back saying "I read terrible things about it online". I picked it up for him anyways since he payed for it (mostly).
He hasn't came home yet so it is still unopened. I went online to read all these horrid reviews and bad story after bad story about it. I'm thinking I'm going to talk my kid into not opening it up and taking it back tomorrow.
Put the money towards L.A. Noire or something.Comment

Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
They promised reviewers that they would fix the net code with a patch released sometime this week. We'll see how it turns out. I've played offline for 3 hours and so far and I have to say this:
-This game feels more Halo than BF/COD. I understand different people need different amount of bullets going into them and it sounded good on paper, but without auto aim, each bullet hit becomes even more valuable so the fact that it takes more ammo to put someone down is....well.....annoying.
-It may be because I haven't learned the stages yet but the stages don't really seemed like they designed it with the type of attention to detail as are in other FPS. COD even to this day I find hiding spots and cover that I'm pretty sure was put their by design. Here it just seems very simple. Again I haven't unlocked the light class yet, so i haven't fully done the parkour stuff yet.
-At this point I have to agree with the reviews I read that said these this game has all the right pieces, it just doesn't fit together. However, given I've played all but 3 hours, that should no way sway your decision to buy the game. I'm still using the same default weapon I started withI'm guessing a lot of the reviews out there spent less time than I did.
And yes the bots in this game have erratic behavior both on your team and on the opposing team.
I'm waiting to see if they fix the net code in the next 2 weeks before I decide if this is a bust or not. For all of you claiming this game is crap out of the box just remember this same site was in love with NBA 2k10 & 2k11 and it came with all sorts of problems out of the box.Comment

Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
Well my kid just got home and despite me showing him that review and the various other bad things I've read about it online he didn't care.
He just opened it up downstairs and is having a go. I told him if they don't patch it properly and it ends up sucking it's his loss.
*sigh*
I could have took it back unopened and got something else in a week or two.Comment

Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
played the ps3 version tonight. This game ha a HUGE learning Curve. You really are going to have to play this a while to get a lot out of it. Controls feel good. Of course no online on the psn for now. I played the Challenges to try and rank up. I do like the smart system. just hold down l2/lt and while your sprinting your guy will try to automatically climb something in one smooth motion. The game can really seem overwhelming at times.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: Brink (360/PS3/PC)
started with some horrible laggy games and now played 2 hours straight of some pretty intense action... really enjoying it so far... fun and different. Nice that some players are really figuring it out... also I set my rank or higher on the game search settings and started getting good games.

My goodness though, I hope that they release some patches. Because it could run a lot smoother on the PS3.Last edited by LingeringRegime; 05-11-2011, 03:21 AM.Comment
