Well, after four hours this morning and afternoon, I really like the game (running as a boring old Warrior).
BUT, I like DA:O a lot more at this point. The combat here is too frenetic, I miss the large exploration (yeah yeah, there's night and day and a mountain area, but whatever), and honestly, the whole icons for your response kind of suck. I never really liked the red/blue for Mass Effect, and this is the same thing. I'd much prefer the wheel dialogue with no hint as to whether you're acting like a smart ***, intimidating someone, flirting, being humble, etc. Just make your own decisions and live with the consequences.
So yeah, a good game, but not my fave as of yet...especially as I just had a 60+ hour run through Origins, Awakening, and the DLC before this in order to set up my imported save.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

The story doesn't have that sense of urgency previous Bioware games do (i.e, find Saren/stop the Collectors, confront Loghain and stop the blight, defeat Malak/Sun-Hai/Irenicus, etc.) I've just gotten to Act II and I just don't get that sense of urgency.
I know people will cite ME2's success over ME but that series was always kinda actiony, DA was built to be the "spiritual successor" of Bauldr's Gate which was anything but actiony. Yeah I have high res texture pack installed and everything high and I have no crashes ....I'm using 11.2 drivers (i think) I'm not using the latest drivers since I'm having issues loading it.Comment

Yeah they made it more casual gamer friendly that is for sure. But if you raise the difficulty level you will be challenged.Comment

I think the combat is basically the same but faster. Im playing on the hard difficulty. I still pause and set up attacks and make sure my tactics for my party are set up right. I also love the fact you can move single party members to certain spots on the battlefield. Playing on higher difficulty you have to play tactical, or you will die. Im still early in, but I am loving the challenge I am getting in combat.Redskins, Lakers, Orioles, UNC Basketball , and ND Football

I always thought it was funny how in ME2 how you would:
SpoilerSave Horizon, attack the Collector ship...and then PAUSE...for however long so you can do loyalty missions, get the rest of your allies, etc. all before getting the IFF which accelerates the end game.
I mean, I'm only a ways in, as I just started the delivery of the amulet to the Dalish (though I have done a few side quests and recruited some allies).
As I said, I'm enjoying it, and in regard to combat it's easier, but I play on Casual as I want to finish games, not get frustrated.
If nothing else, I'm sure Dragon Age 3 will be utterly amazing, LOL.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

I know a lot of people prefer "e.p.i.c." save the world storylines, but I'm enjoying the personal touch of the quests and the narrative so far. I care much more about doing things for my mom and sister then basically any quest in DAO.
I'm not comparing it to the iconic masterpiece Planescape Torment , but its similar to me in that the interactions and growth of the characters, as the events happen in the world, are of paramount importance.
Playing on hard, just like I did for DAO, I'm using the same pause and control tactics I used in that game. It doesn't seem that different to me.
For me, DA2 is a superior game at this point. To each his own.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Ok now I have reached the point in the game where the battles have kicked up a few notches. They are much larger and much longer. And the power of the enemies are way more powerful then thugs. The crap has hit the fans.
In the beginnning I was able to roll through with ease. But now.......hell no, now I really got to focus on everybody and make sure nobody is over whelmed. And above all I really got to pay attention to my flank and backside.
Battles are intense now.Comment

In my hour and a half of playtime i dont know what to think of DA2. I have made it home so to speak. I felt there was more of a purpose in the first one then in DA2. Maybe that will change as i move on in the game.MLB: Chicago Cubs

I had some time with this game today and i am pretty far into the first act.
Playing on the ps3 as a warrior. I agree with alot of people saying that it is a change from DA:O. Its really hard to put my finger on it. The best way I can describe it, is it plays more like Awakenings.
First, the game is fun. The ten year span has me interested to see what will happen with some of the characters I interacted with so far. It does feel like every decision I make might have future ramifications.
Combat is quicker and more hectic. Playing solely on console for my Dragon Age fix, its hard for me to say its any less tactical than the original. From a console standpoint, its an improvement.
Graphics are better. I like the new models. All the different races have a very unique look. The Qunari look downright intimidating now. I also like how your family changes their appearance depending on your custom Hawke.
Dislikes:
Jumping time line. I'm going to put this in spoilers. But it has to do with the time of arriving in Kirkwall and first getting into the city.SpoilerAfter accepting the offer to work for the mercenary for a year i was really disappointed they jumped the entire year without single mission. Next thing you know, you are in the city and talking to people in the streets that knew you from your past work. I just need to take these people on their word that I met them that year and have a history with them. I wish I saw the struggle. It would have went a long way with building the character and especially the connection with your sibling.
The loot system is a little weak. I rather determine that what I have is junk rather then the system already making that decision. Its annoying that you spend attributes points in cunning to unlock chests just to open junk. Small dislike there.
With that said, its an amazing game. I wouldnt have sat my but down for a session like today just to say I dont like it. I have no problems with the repeating enviroments. You are the Champion of Kirkwall, not the Free Marches, so staying in the confines of the city is understandable. But, I haven't run into any awe inspiring moments yet. I am still only in the first act, so I hope that changes soon. I want that Andrastes ashes moment. Thats what this is missing.Comment
