    Re: Grand Theft Auto V

I won't lie, whatever GTA they put out I'll buy. I'm a sucker for the franchise.

That said, if they simply update the graphics of the old games and rerelease them then I'll find that a bit odd at this point. It'll feel like a cash grab.

I'm not sure what to expect. Obviously them reimagining the maps and making them larger and more modern likely isn't happening as that's a large undertaking, but simply playing on the old tiny maps will feel outdated immediately.

I still play Vice City on my phone these days and the game definitely shows its age at this point, so I'm not sure how well the trilogy does if they literally only update the graphics. It's a weird situation, imo.

In a dream world they would reimagine the worlds, expand each games map to be bigger, then tune the missions to fit the new maps, add some modern mechanics to the gameplay and missions, but that's basically a remake and I don't see them remaking all 3 games. That's a big undertaking.

Something along the lines of the Mafia 1 remake would be ideal for me but I don't expect it. At the very least modernizing the controls and save features is going to have to happen for me to buy again.

Get rid of the train mission.
Get rid of the little flying plane mission.
Get rid of the little RC (or helicopter?) mission.

Do those and its a day one buy for me.

Yeah, I'm shallow and if they just make it nicer to look at while preserving the charm and nostalgia, it will be great.

But what I keep thinking about is how much money they've made in GTA V, and if they had an opportunity to reinvest some of that and generate even more off of that success by bringing what has been successful there to these older titles... it makes me wonder if we could get a lot more.

I don't have any idea how it works with the contracts and whatnot, but I'd take something similar to the Mafia 1 remake, but not exactly. With that remake they had new voice actors, rewrote some dialogue, and basically recreated the entire game.

I'd gladly empty my pockets if each of these games took place in a rebuilt world that is bigger and closer matches the quality of GTA V or even IV, the missions were all the same, just changed for the map, and then all of the dialogue and all that was from the original games. Update the controls, make some quality of life improvements, bring over some modern gameplay mechanics, and I'll pay $60 for each game.

I know they have had an entire studio at the very least dedicated to this trilogy for 2 years, and Rockstar has all the resources in the world, but would they do that as a huge thank you to the fans? It would certainly make people like me who are upset that they are still milking online and haven't even announced the next GTA game be more than happy to wait for some more time.

If it's literally just a remaster that updates the textures, lighting, and modernizes the controls some, it won't be enough for a lot of people to forgive Rockstar for the handling of the series since the launch of V.

Yeah, one reason that San Andreas felt big (besides the diversity and map creativity) was the draw distance, or lack thereof. If you gave the same draw distance in that game that GTA V or RDR 2 has, it'll look super tiny. Playing that way is like the same as a magician revealing his trick.

                        Grand Theft Auto V

I’d be all over a remake trilogy as it seems GTA VI isn’t coming anytime soon.

I was a 21 senior in college and I remember going to a midnight release for GTA V at the local GameStop. I will be 30 in November. LOL.

If it was a Trilogy remake that used the GTA V Enhanced and Expanded engine, that would be the ceiling of what we could get. I doubt we would get that. But, I don't think we just get a higher resolution, resolution, texture, improved controls remaster. That would be a slap in a face cash grab. For me, you can have the 3 games look and play the same as long as they keep their unique atmosphere/feel.

Seeing the "highly modded classic GTA game" had me look at some InterGTA modded GTA YouTube vids. Out of the GTA 3, San Andreas, and Vice City mods, I think GTA 3 is his best one. https://youtu.be/EbB86C8-13g . Which is a GTA V mod. If it can resemble something close to that, that would be great. But that would essentially be a remake using the GTA V engine. Ideally, I want the trilogy to be modernized while still capturing that PS2 nostalgia.

I fully agree. If GTA VI does come out 12 years after GTA V, that sets the bar extremely high. Especially with Rockstar not putting out the the same amount of games as the PS2 era. I get them want to fix the culture and the Houser brother leaving, but I would want them to get back to where where they were at in the past. They went all hands on deck for RDR2 and GTA Online. But, they have the studios and resources where they can afford to have a studio or 2 work on AAA side projects.
It almost feels like the success of GTA V was more of a negative than a positive for them. I don't blame them on over-milking the same GTA Online cow if it continues to print money. But at the same time, they have the IPs, studios, and resources to where they could do other projects.

I think we can assume that we shouldn't expect a remake quality, but expect more than just a up-res. Hopefully they can strike a good balance with it feeling like a good highly modded experience. When I say keep the PS2 nostalgia, it's more of keeping the soundtrack as close as before. Each game, didn't just feel like the same game with the different story. They all had a different atmosphere
