Just had another mission where I met whatever you call those flying aliens. Made it through without any deaths and did a pretty good job planning it out.

Had a lot of promotions after that mission which helps tremendously after losing four soldiers in that explosion. Also did another mission that landed me a Sergeant. So necessary. Quickly expanded to 5 slots.

I'm so scared to send people into the thick of the woods and somehow sending someone with them makes me feel better about it. So far it has worked.

Do Support soldiers do better with medkits? Like, should I consider them medical? Do they get upgrades to improve health for other soldiers or is that a different class?
support tree does have bonuses for extra healing and some other fun perks.

I finished the first base invasion mission. And kicked all kinds of major ***.

Felt great to pull off a perfect mission of this importance with everyone healthy and intact.

I now have full coverage (other than Japan....damn japs LOL) of all the countries.

I too have learned that finishing a lot of moves with Overwatch is huge.

I can't wait for second playthrough and I still have a little ways to go on my first one.

On Gamefaqs they have some FAQs that can explain different skills for each class.

Support can either be primarily suppression/smoke grenade or you can focus more on being a healer (or a cross of the two, if you want). I usually have mine be medkit guys, but that's because I'm usually replacing a vet healer who got killled. I may try and train up a suppression support as well, but kinda nice to have 2 healing guys.

Exactly! I felt the same way finishing off that first base. Full coverage here too, though I've lost a few countries that were unavoidable.

Part of me wants to restart because I really know what I'm doing now, but will be fun to see if I can survive here. Need to get more veterans so I can sustain a wipe.

          .
Yes, I started doing this in my latest mission (the one that I felt like I finally had a better grasp of things).

Whenever I found myself on the defensive and waiting for the aliens to either move in a bit closer (so I could make a more accurate shot) or had moved to cover and really had no other options, I used Overwatch.

I did have my first soldier panic. I thought I had two moves left (overlooked the on-screen graphic telling me I had one) and moved directly behind an alien in an attempt to get a 90%+ shot on it with other soldiers nearby to finish the job if he failed. Well, that was his last move and the alien proceeded to shoot him in the face. Luckily he survived but he panicked. Even luckier for me, no one was in the soldier's general area (as I was flanking the alien) and he just crawled against the wall.

I love snipers. Have a sniper with 17 kills. Just had him promoted to Lieutenant. He's my go-to kill guy. Has saved many of my soldiers from tough situations.

Just finished a very difficult mission I sent him in simply because I knew he would get the job done. And that he did.

Needed that after a mission in which I lost three soldiers and someway managed to get through without total failure.

Agreed, the Snipers are awesome. Did you use snap shot (where they can move & shoot) or squad sight? Squad Sight/Overwatch with a plasma sniper rifle is amazing. Especially once you get double tap too.

I used Squad Sight. Once I read that was possible, I knew I had to jump on it.

Only just got myself a laser sniper rifle. I tried getting another sniper ranked up (my beast is now a Captain) and made a grave mistake with him. Took a chance and he took a beating. The enemies really take advantage when they see a character is near his end. They do not play.

Was disheartening because I really wanted that second sniper for missions. He was a Squaddie. I always take a rookie with me in missions to get them improved so his death helped someone else.

I feel like I'm going to lose soon. I just got another A in my second council report, but four countries are at 5 panic level and another already bowed out.

I've only failed one mission (the bomb mission), but I don't have enough money to get satellites up fast enough. I'm waiting on my third one. A few days away.

Not sure how I'm going to do it. I think rookie mistakes have really set me back. I'm getting better about strategy, moving slowly, setting up tactics. The death of Munoz (the other sniper) was just a stupid move. I totally blew that one.

Squad sight with a plasma sniper rifle and getting "in the zone" = lot's of dead aliens.

I have a top ranked Sniper Rob Winters (my LF on my Sunday softball team) with 49 kills now. He is a pot shot. I can't lose this guy.

Squad Sight is the best. Lost my "B Team" sniper had to go to the next one on the bench. That guy wasn't a total noob - I had taken him on a couple of missions early in the game so he had some XP - but for whatever reason, I had taken Snap Shot. I was completely clueless with him - took about 5 turns before I realized what was going on. "Why isn't he shooting??"

He's about to get dismissed. I need to level up another Squad Sight sniper ASAP.

My "A Team" sniper who is already a total killing machine, just got psionic powers

RIP Rob Winters. I lost him yesterday on a Terror mission. Foolish move by be, it was all my fault. A Mech took him down. Unreal how bad of a move I made.

He was my best solider hands down. 57 kills on 21 missions. Rob....you will be missed.

I have my team "B" sniper who will move into the "A" slot but I need to work on another team "B" sniper ASAP.

Anyone care to explain Squad Sight?

It says that your sniper can take a shot at anyone within an ally's sight, but there are several times that I have a soldier that can see an alien but my sniper is not able to take a shot as well.

And the ally hasn't lost his turn - in case that is one of the reasons.

So anyone know why this is the case?

your sniper can take a shot at anyone within an ally's and the snipers sight.

Think of it as extended sight, because the target still has to be within the snipers line of sight. This is another reason to find elevated ground with a sniper when possible.

your sniper can take a shot at anyone within an ally's and the snipers sight.

Think of it as extended sight, because the target still has to be within the snipers line of sight. This is another reason to find elevated ground with a sniper when possible.
That still seems a bit confusing to me. What is the advantage of squad sight then if the sniper still needs to see the enemy?

I'm not understanding how the "in ally's sight" matters then.

edit: I guess from what I've been reading, Squad Sight allows the sniper to see further than usual. Correct me if I'm wrong. How I'm understanding it now is:

Imagine the room is a straight line. Without Squad Sight, the sniper may be able to fire on a target that is, let's say, 30 tiles away.

With Squad Sight and an Ally 30 tiles ahead with an enemy another 30 tiles in front of him, the Sniper can fire on an enemy 60 tiles ahead (his original 30 and the boost acquired by having his ally pretty much assist him on his shot for the final 30 tiles).

                                Is that how it works?

I didn't make any edits. I remember my sniper's name as Boris Bogdanov.

Though I instantly recognize the others, none have had the impact he has had. I think he will enter that fantastic place you put great game-created characters in your memory. Like that guy you drafted to be a star short stop, or the 2nd round pick that became the fan-favorite three-point shooter on your team.

All I can hope is that Boris's fate is among the living.
