I actually like the change in tone in the graphics. It appears to be a much more interesting fantasy world than Skyrim ended up being. Not to mention each shot and moment in the gameplay videos looks like some type of painting and picture out of a medieval, fantasy novel.
Wait. It's 2013 and they release ingame screenshots. They are gorgeous. The same time they state/list the game as PC-only.
Here we are 2015. After 1 year of downgrade rumors and the official statement that the game will be multiplatform they admit the downgrade.
So it's the community to blame again??

I don't recall them ever saying it was going to be PC only.

And nobody is disagreeing with you that there was a downgrade. You seem to be on a witch-hunt to persuade others from wanting to purchase what is apparently shaping up to be one hell of game "despite" graphical differences from its premiere in its early stages of development.

Guess the good thing is the game hasn't released yet and your don't have to buy it? Then you haven't been treated any specific way...

Nope. I'm not doing this. That's why I keep posting about the gameplay. I just reply to posts that have the "oh it doesn't matter", "70% of pcs can't run the game with the 2013 graphics" tone. It does matter for pc gamers. It's not about been a pc elitist. My pc can't handle the 2013 CDPR's presented graphics. I just can't stand false advertising.

Dead serious.... You don't like the game for any reason, don't buy it?

If you're so distraught over this despite the amazing reviews, and still buy the game then that's on you. It's not like there's some big huge surprise that nobody knew about until you paid for the game. You have the info, the game isn't out yet. Don't like it, don't buy it. It's pretty straightforward IMO

You still ignore the rules of marketing and business reliability. It's not personal.

Your posts in the thread make it seem that way. Perhaps I took them out of context.

Again, I have to think its a fine line in showing optimized, work-in-progress PC screens and making changes, "downgrades" during development to fulfill the scope in other areas of the game. Then showing a near complete build with graphical differences and a noticeable shift in tone and style.

I just don't think its as terrible or evil as you keep reiterating. I can understand the disappointment, but you just seem resentful at this point.

I completely understand and respect your opinion but the downgrade=optimization laughable excuse by CDPR can only be valid for people that didn't have a single PC in their whole life. For the rest is a straight insult.

Man...I stop paying attention to things for a couple of days and suddenly CDPR is another industry devil...lol.

Jokes aside, I've been trying to play catchup on this whole meltdown, but has an actual PC downgrade (to the extent being discussed) been confirmed? I've only seen rumors and a supposed post from an "insider" at CDPR (the validity of which my attached quote from their rep seems to be refuting). I've seen the stuff floating around the web, and saw the post earlier here with the comparison, but I don't know the settings, source etc.

I'm not saying there's nothing to worry about (I honestly don't know is the point), but I guess I'm wondering what I missed because, while I understand the concern, I'm not sure how CDPR gained villain status so quickly based on the what is actually out there in terms of KNOWN information.

FWIW, this is all I've found on the issue from any official CDPR source (their community manager):

Ok guys, I belive a word of clarification is required. These are just rumors, and as we’ve said before we don’t comment on such. Secondly you have to remember that our game is a big release – a lot of people have been anticipating it and quite a few would like to gain some publicity from it even when it means talking about things which are not true. Wild Hunt comes out in a few days and you will be able to find out for yourself if the game is up to your standards. We believe so – we’ve worked really hard for 3 years to deliver you best possible experience – we love The Witcher as much as you do. To conlude we’d rather have you focus on the game and the fact that it’s going to be in your hand in a matter of days. And one more thing – whenever we say something officially, we always put a person behind it.

Nvidia put out a tech article yesterday, along w/ a matrix of expectations matched up w/ their cards: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/art...r-system-ready

By comparison the target for PS4 I believe is medium/high and 25-30fps @ 1080p, and 900p for the Xbox One. Day 1 patch is expected to improve the framerate/performance to make it more reliable on consoles.

Thought I'd read that their community managers responding about a JM16-like 'post' confirming of downgrade by an 'insider' outright said 'there will be no downgrade'. I don't think there's been a single image supporting that claim though, the insider's bullet points make a lot of sense when you see the comparisons. Have to wonder if the consoles dial anything obvious back to get their performance gains also - hopefully just optimizations that are transparent to the end user. Saying the PC version looks just like the console versions but with hairworks isn't exactly a ringing endorsement either though.

We'll see soon enough. Glad it looks to be an awesome game otherwise, just disappointed some of the amazing shots we've seen will likely never be a reality. Glad 1440p lines up with my shiny new card, will have to tinker and see if it's worth trying to enjoy some of the Gameworks stuff too.

What rules are you talking about? Have you ever seen a billboard ad or commercial of ANY food advert and wonder why the Big Mac your holding looks nothing like the one in the picture? Happens almost everywhere in life. Welcome to the real world.

                            I'm really confused.

I checked in on this thread earlier this week, everything seemed great, decided to preorder and pre-load on ps4. Went away for a few days. Now I'm unsure what's happening.

Is the downgrade the result of the day one patch? I feel like the reviews I read earlier this week all said the game looks great on console but frame rate stutters, that's it.

Either way I'm really not that concerned.

No, the day 1 patch will improve framerate. THe downgrade is from screenshots in the past that look nicer than the latest videos/screenshots we've all been seeing now for a couple of months. You'll be fine.

The downgrade is a thing in general, remains to be seen how the day 1 patch will affect things or if its just general optimizations that help it stay closer to 30fps more reliably on consoles.
